Error Starting Game

Post by Synicism »

Every time I try to start the game I get this error:

PlayMe Error

Failed(0x800C000D) in RenderFile (-C:\MATRIXGAMES\STARSHIPS UNLIMITED DIVIDED GALAXIES\movie\matrix.avi)!

There is an OK button, but when I press it, nothing happens and I have to reboot my computer.

I found the matrix.avi file on my harddrive and was able to play it using an .AVI file player just fine. I'm not sure why the game can't read it.

Anyone else have this, how can I fix it?

Hi,

Do you have version 2.0 ? If not, did you install the patches allready ?

For a quick fix just rename the video directory. That way the game won´t load the videos and move on.

The version I have wasn't V2.0. So I installed the patch before I started to play. So Yes, I have V2.0. I'm not sure if V1.0 has the problem because I never tried it.

Your quick fix seems to work, but I would like to know what is causing the error.

Check the version when you run the game. It should appear at the top right of the intro screen. It doesn't sound like the patch got installed in the right folder. Did you install the game in the default folder? You should only have to install the last patch. I know that Matrix Games messed up with the previous patch and it installed in the wrong folder, so be careful.

The version number in the upper right corner is V2.0. The patch did try to install into the wrong directory, but I changed it before I started the install. I tried to reinstall the patch but I'm getting the same error. Maybe I should try re-installing the whole thing.

Your diagnostics file looks fine to me. I'm assuming you're running from version 1.0 of the CD and installed the latest patch 2.0 .

The error you get comes from a problem in version 1.0 and has been fixed in subsequent patches. I suggest you remove and reinstall. Just to be on the safe side. Try installing patch 1.2 and see if you have the same error. If it's okay then install patch 2.0 . Again, be careful with the paths that it tries to install into.

Okay. Got this fixed. What I had to do was install V1.2 on top of V1.0. Then install V2.0 on top of V1.2.

Installing V2.0 on top of V1.0 was causing me this problem. Not sure if it's just me, or if everyone trying to upgrade to V2.0 from V1.0 will get this problem as well.

I'm just glad it works at last, thanks for all the help.
