Fighter escorts on delay

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Fighter escorts on delay

Post by 7th Somersets »

Should I expect to see fighter escorts on delay missions follow the main bomber stream out later? (eg The B17 raid sets off at H hour with P51 escort set to H+20 minute delay - should I see the bombers head off and then 20 minutes later the P51s?)

It may be the complexity of my flight plans/poor eye sight/both - but I never seem to see the delayed escorts setting off.

Thanks.

Yes, exactly. With the plane icons turned off you will just get the orange squares.

Outbound, everything seems to launch from the raid start point, not the individual unit's airfield. Returning, each unit is seen returning to it's own airfield. That's the way I remember it ?

One possibility is that weather is causing the delayed escort to abort. If there is cloud over the form up point when the delayed escort is due to launch then they might not launch at all.

Also I've noticed an error with the speed of bombers. They cruise about 50 mph too slow, based on the in game reference info, so you need to compensate and add more time to delay. Your P-51's are probably catching up so early that it looks like they leave together.

Thanks for the replies. Dobey I think that you were right - just completed another raid where I left a longer delay and could see the escorts.

Off the top of my head, then Cruise speed is unloaded. Loaded speed is Cruise speed minus 50 mph :)

I wonder why the designers didn't see the usefulness of allowing the player to set the form up point. It seems kinda odd that the form up point of most of my glorious raids ends up being an airport in southern Italy in which not a single one of my planes for that raid is based. That of course means they have to get there from their airfields up in the north consuming precious fuel in the process.
While it is true you can adjust 1st inbound point, I think it would be much better if instead of that you could set the form up point.

Move the 1st way point and the formup point will change. That might, however, remove some bombers from the eligible list. Fix is to assign bombers and then move the 1st way point.
