Here's something that might blow the minds of my American brothers: the campaign "season" for the upcoming parliamentary election in this country will be 20 days long in total.
As much as my fellow Americans may suffer from "campaign burnout" , we still manage to elect people that we don't know enough about.

Here's something that might blow the minds of my American brothers: the campaign "season" for the upcoming parliamentary election in this country will be 20 days long in total.
Not surprising in a Parliamentary type government. Each person elects only one representative , who is in essence a "local" representative. The locals elect their leader who becomes the party leader , and normally , the prime minister. In essence you only get to elect an equivalent to a US representative. Who's generally a person already well known in his district.
In the USA system (and one other country, the Phillipines) there is a myrid of elections. Some of which cover vast distances (such as the entire country). What does one end of the country know about a former governor from the other end of the country? Not much. Hence the need to start the campaign early , in theory to give people the most information from each candidate for each office.
As much as my fellow Americans may suffer from "campaign burnout" , we still manage to elect people that we don't know enough about. I don't see shortening the campaign period as helping this problem.
