Air Base Composition

Post by Powloon »

I'm trying to get my head around the air side of the game.

From what I have read it is best to even out your aircraft to maximise airfield support. Is it best to concentrate specific types of planes at an air base ie all fighters or all bombers or is it best to have a mix of types or am i just over thinking it?

Are there penalties/benefits from stacking airbases in one hex? I'm guessing that you are more vunrable to airfield atttacks if you stack airbases but I could be wrong.

Playing as the German side is there a specific point when you should pull an air unit back into the national reserve?

Anyway thanks in advance for any incites you can pass my way.

It doesn't really matter as long as the units are under the same Air HQ

There are no real benefits other then you are stacking FLAK in one hex. The enemy gets a chance to hit three air bases at once though

Perhaps if a unit has really low morale and you are temporary low on airframes for that unit type

The air game still needs work but there are a few features that are fun and important in the game... My favs are ground support and interdiction. You can knock of some valuable movements point by closing your turn with excellent recon and some milage left on bombers and fighters. If your playing axis make sure you use your bombers and transport for resupply and refueling duty in 1941 (by flying your bombers to your arm. columns first thing in a turn!
