What is the criteria for a Command Check?

Post by Fred98 »

I have cases where 2 units reporting to the same HQ.

The 2 units seen to be exactly the same.

1. The unit close to the HQ is not in command. The unit a long way from the HQ is in command. Why is that?

2. Sometimes a unit on difficult terrain is adjacent to its HQ unit and it is out of command. Why is that?

3. Sometimes, I move a unit, near to its HQ. Both are on clear terrain and have clear terrain between them. That unit can go turn after turn and never get back into command. Why is that?

The Command Check for each unit is a modified D100 roll so there is always the potential for failing the check. There are also a good number of modifiers that impact the check, e.g. terrain, disruption, effect of EZoCs - they are listed in Manual, page 28.

I've heard of simple things, such as a couple Shermans not being able to move due to slippage of treads over tree-trunks, causing whole divisions to be delayed for 24 hours or more...or was that days?

So yes... you always have to prepare for the unexpected (delays).

Factors are considered, dice bowled and result applied.

Hence, sometimes a unit is out of command unexpentantly.

But how could a unit, quite near the HQ, be out of supply, turn after turn after turn !

Well in theory, random nature such as mud-slides cutting off roads; deliberate means such as partisans interfering with connections, etc.. etc.. etc...
