Playing online? Never miss another turn!

Post by PipFromSlitherine »

The tray tool is now available with support for War in the East, as well as Battlefield Academy and FoG - all in a single little app. Never miss another turn with onscreen notifications when turns are available to play.

The tray tool is a tiny app which lives in the system tray (usually bottom right on the taskbar) and will inform you when turns are available for your games. No installation is required, you just run the tool and it will keep periodically checking until disabled, or you can set it up to be part of your system startup - the choice is yours!

Enjoy!

Cheers

Hey Pip:  how often does it check for any available games.  Once per minute, or once per hour, or ....??? Oh, and thanks very much for this app. It's going to be very handy.

They check every minute or so. Allowing user tweaking of that frequency is on the todo list for the app.

Hope it's useful!

Cool.

What would really be nice though is some kind of chat functionality in the MP game tool.

What would be my favorite is the ability to save an online turn or at least have them kept on the back end in case there is a bug. In my first game we lost it because we could not roll back a few turns to fix the Romanian bug.

How would I set this tool up to always start up automatically?

I put it in the startup folder. Worked well (only entered info once) in XP. Win7 seems to want the info each time however.

my question now: why does it sometimes say who the turns are for, and other times just list the number of turns?

Totally missed this way back when it was posted. Sorry.

Never seen the issue where it demands the login each time. My guess would be some oddness with startup apps and their permissions (e.g. if the folder was created running in one mode and the startup starts in another). I would try shutting down the app, deleting the My Documents\My Games\Slitherine\TrayTool folder and rebooting so it starts in startup and see if that helps.

It will tell you the player name if there is a single game waiting, otherwise it will tell you the count. I'm hoping to find time sometime(!) to get it to give you a list if you want it, but all the games are slightly different, so it's not a simple update.

Cheers

Was it fixed so you could save a copy of the file locally? Until that happens I won't be able to use the awesomeness of the online server.

No, the only saves are to the server.

Pip, can this be done any other way, e.g. via a web interface or can you let us know the protocol? The reason is that my main machine runs Linux 99% of the time and I only reboot into Windows when I have a WITE turn ready. If I could get a similar program running under Linux to pop up and tell me when I have a turn, that'd be great.
