Crackaces there are 26 subs around PH.  If I could remember how to take a screen shot, I'd post one.
Zulu I am pretty sure that they are temp restricted.  Atleast they were in my AI game.

I am loading the 34 Inf rgt with a FA and USN BF at San Fran.  They will head to Christmas Island.  I have all the PT boats at PH loaded in a TF with some support ships heading to PP.

Intel has a Jap unit heading towards Ambon.  Could this be the CS TFs?  CL Bosie TF is heading that way.  I don't want to lose Ambon yet.

Your right Crackaces. I'm moving that also.  I do plan on buying out the PI fighters.  I just want to keep them around long enough to help out with forts and evac'ing the ships if I can.  I don't think Koniu will let me get the out.  I don't know how many trips I will be able to make with my tankers in DEI but I'm going to try untill it gets to hot.  I don't want to loose any tankers.  I'm already hiding the ships that will convert to AEs, and such.  I will use the ships that convert to APA in safe areas.  My carriers are combat ships they will move around looking for chances to hit the Japs but I will try and keep them back away from the fight as much as possible.

I'm thinking of taking those 2 Indian brigades andputting them in Timor.  I want to beef that area up some maybe form a protective barrier around Darwin. I know if he wants it he can take it.  I will fight for Ambon and Kendri.  I'm airlifting Inf units from outlying bases to them.

I'm thinking of buying a inf BN and putting it in there just for some extra fight.  I was wrong it was not a Lancer unit but a Mohawk unit.  But I plans for them now.

For me it's hard to form a long term plan this early.  I don't know where he will attack and what will happen.  He already messed with my by hitting Manila.  I'm kinda happy for that though.  Yea I know there old BBs but I plan on putting them to use.  I still have all those cats and fighters that I don't have to rebuild.  The only things that I can see are my supply hubs and stuff.

keep your thoughts coming.  I don't feel lonely anymore

doc

A few issues for you to consider.

1. Malaya Army Indian units are both inexperienced and low on morale. They don't provide much of a challenge in the first few months. Of far greater value is rescuing the 2 Australian brigades from Malaya. They can link up with other Australian battalions to form the 8th AIF Division.

2. Brigades are much weaker than Divisions. Always preferable to consolidate your brigades into their parent Division.

3. Ditto for Battalions. If possible consolidate them into their parent Brigade.

4. Timor has 3 bases. You propose to move 2 Indian Brigades to Timor. Ergo, you are leaving something "open". If you are serious about defending Timor, you need adequate garrisons at all 3 bases on the island.

5. Ultimately the single most important factor in holding Timor long term is shipping a lot of supply there before the enemy gets there. The problem is it is very easy for Japan to impose an aerial blockade of Timor. All Japan needs is one of these 3 bases to base Nells/Bettys:

Ambon
Kendari
Makassar

You will be very lucky to save just one of those bases.

6. You are spreading out your Dutch troops too thinly trying to hold both Ambon and Kendari. Even if you concentrate on one of these bases and reinforce it with other Allied troops, it will be very difficult to hold against an invasion.

7. Not certain what the situation is at hong Kong, but get some of those battalions, for whom reinforcements are available in the depots, out ASAP. Fly them to buttress your Dutch units.

8. Don't use your Dutch TK and AO to haul fuel out of the DEI. Use instead xAK to haul out fuel. The small capacity Dutch TK and AOs are particularly valuable in transporting fuel to very small island ports, hence try very hard to save them. Quick port turnaround time will be very useful later on.

9. Don't bother using your Dutch PA on naval search. At this stage use them all to airlift troops. If you want some naval search capacity, use the Dutch heffalump bombers. Don't waste the heffalumps on naval attack, you will get a very, very poor return on investment.

10. Try bamboozling your opponent by not moving Filipino troops to Bataan. Instead fly them out to one of the Filipino bases which produces supply. Cebu is a good candidate. Essentially the effectiveness of a Luzon last stand at Bataan is critically hampered by lack of supply. Clark is a far better base for a determined defense (and Manila also has some good points in its favour, namely it's supply generation capacity) than Bataan. If you move Filipino cadres to Cebu you can subsequently use up your Filipino reinforcements when the parents are destroyed on Luzon.

11. Try basing your Filipino airforce on Luzon. Place the P-26 on low level naval strike. Often Japanese players leave Cebu alone until most of Luzon is secured and then send relatively unprotected naval forces to capture Cebu.

12. If you do manage to get supply into Darwin/Timor, you will be surprised at the relative ease and effectiveness of on sending supply to Cebu via sub transport TF. Of course you have to understand the context when I say relative ease/effectiveness.[;)]

13. Zamboanga is similar to Cebu but because it is not an island base, it is easier for Japan to conquer. Essentially I am saying look at your Filipino supply generating bases and turn them into mini festung Palembangs. The flip side is you would be engaging in supply denial to the enemy.

14. Buying out the PI fighters is not necessarily a good idea. They have only a short shelf life before they have to be disbanded and you may well struggle to find sufficient spare airframes to maintain their TOE. Think carefully about using the PPs saved to rescue the good LCUs in the Philippines and Malaya.

15. Don't fall under the trap of thinking that because Pearl Harbor was not hit, you won't have a Catalina airframe shortage. To ensure you don't get a shortage concentrate on flying them only within their normal range and with 50%+ experienced pilots.

Thanks for your thoughts, advise and guidance.  Very much appreciated.  Its always nice to have a Grand Master give a new guy tutaliage (sp).

1.  I do plan on evac'ing the Aus units from Singers.
2-3.  Planning on it.
4.  Yes I know.  Figureing out troops I can get there in time is the problem.
5.  I know[:@]
6.  Yes I know there thin.  Ok I will try and go for Ambon as the man one.  If I can.  See below
7.  Never thought about flying out HnK units.  Hes kicking on the door now.
8.  There leaving now.
9.  Already done.
10.  Ok, I tried that in an AI game.
11 & 14.  Ok,  I will have to relook at this.
12.  I lost a lot of subs in the attack on Manila.  I do plan on converting the 3 US SSTs but thats few months away.
13. Ok
15.  Will check my settings and pilots.

Xnavytc  Thanks.  Yes I am sending supplies from WC to Oz.  I am also doing it from Cape Town.  Yes to sending ships from Oz to US.

Dec 10th

KB location north Borneo heading towards Singers.

PI
Landings at Lingayen.  This cut off the 11th PA Div.  Airborne Assualt on Bayombang.  This kinda violated a HR his forces did not have sufficent Prep time.  But how do you redo the turn without tipping my hand.  So I let it go.  Shit happens in war.  So I will have to think about what to do about this.  Vigan falls.  Four more ships are sunk fleeing the PI.  Bombing missions over Clark AF.  Should be repaired over nite.  I am sending some P 26s on NavA.  I would love for them to go after one of the amphib TFs but my luck they will go after the only SAG within there range.  SS 36 put a fish into an AK off Lingayen.[:D]  Will put up some Figheters this turn.

Malaya
Bombings everywhere.  Troops are trying to fall back to Singers.  I will follow Alfreds suggestion and combine all units not just in Malaya.  A 4 DD raiding force was sighted just south of Singers heading further south.  I have to CL TFS close by they will intercept tonite. Hopefully.

South Borneo
That small straight between Baliakpen (sp) and Tarakan (sp).  CA Huston TF ran into a 4 DD TF. Three of my ships damaged, one DD with 13 sys the rest was nothing.  Only one of his DDs was hit.  Oh well.

Celebes Sea AO
Looks like the CS TF was an amphib TF.  They are only a few hexs away from Ambon.  I only have a PC there.  The Boise TF is 2 days away.

China
The fighter ambush worked.  Four Oscars and ten Sonias went down to no losses of my own.

Hong Kong
A deliberate attack went off at 1 to 1 with over 900 caus to Japan and 550 to me.  Reduced forts to from 3 to 2.

Else where
PH still has 26 subs around.  I am able to get ships out of PH now.  I can get the Wildcats off Wake now.

more later have to go to work

Turn sent.

The last 2 4E sqds in the PI were set to GB the stack of 13 units at Aparri.  Lets hope they get something.  Both PT TFs were sent againist what I am thinking is an undefended TF at Lingayen.  I also set the P 26s at LowNav bombing.

I think the KB might go on a raiding mission in DEI.  I know he still has TTs left but he has to be getting low on sorties.  Just in case I am moving as many ships as I can away.  He is trying to send surface raiders into DEI.  I stopped one already and trying to attack the other one this turn.  I wonder if it is worth it to try and buy out some of the Dutch units and ship them to where I want them?

Lets see what happens.  To all that have posted and lurked in here thank you.

In circumstances when you are rationing your use of PPs, only for Dutch units which can receive drafts from the depots. In practical terms that means only Base Forces as "Support" devices are universal. The unique Dutch devices, even those for which some replacements are produced, have both a very low and short production rate/run.

The other factor mitigating against buying them for shipping is that Dutch units are not well endowed with much heavy equipment. Being lightly equipped does have one advantage; they can be air transported and leave behind very little (if any) equipment.

Have a look at the production rates for Dutch and Filipino devices. Yesterday I suggested that turning on Filipino replacements was feasible under certain circumstances. The viability of that decision is very much born out of the much more useful Filipino production rate and run, compared to the Dutch.

Dec 11th

Very interesting turn.

KB location west of Mershing.  Theres also a large TF heading towards it also.  HMMM landing!!!

PI
More bombings.  But none where I had my fighters patroling.  The MTBs scared away the amphib TF at Linagyen.  SS 36 did sink a DMS.  First Allied sub kill of the war.  More ships sunk from PI and HK.

Malaya
More bombings.  He did lose Oscars to my 4 Bufs.

Ambon
Amphib TF stops at Ambon.  They were greeted by the Boise TF.  Boise is a bad mofo.  CS Chitose, Mizuho, 2 DMS, 2 AMc and 6 PBs went down.  Two AKs where recieved heavy damage.  1262 troops killed.  One US DD was hit.  Boise TF broke off and was caught by 14 Kates which sank 2 of the old DDs.  I will have Boise and gang try to reacquire the TF again before leaving the area.  I did not see this CTF. It is located at the Loewoek base hex, with another TF makeup is unknow.  Force Z is 9 hexs away.  I'm debateing if I should send them in for an attack.  I am redirecting my subs towards this TF.  This was a nice turn.  Oh yea almost forgot 41 Petes and 8 Jakes went down with them.

North Borneo
Miring and the other bases are under attack.  I do not see any SAGs with them.  Now that the KB has passed them by.  I am thinking of sending the Huston TF up there for a quick raid.

China
Hes on the move.  He has roughed up some of my LCUs.  I'll have to get the locations.  I'm just running for my life right now.

PH
His subs are now moving off.  So I will start forming up TFs to go and leave PH.

Wake
The wildcats have left and are returning to PH.

A 2 ship TF was sighted between Canton and Christmas Is. Raiding party.  I am redirecting TFs towards them.  Lets welcome them  EEY.

Sorry Alfred.  I should of been more specific.  I thinking of buying out the Dutch units to move to Ambon or another spot I wanted to defend.  My thinking was it would be quicker, than airlifting.

Koniu asked me if he could change some of his previous moves.  I allowed this, and it changed some things.  He had that CVTF sitting 9 hexs away from Force Z.  Now it is on the move heading away from them.  So I am going to hold Z inplace for now.  He is moving some LCUs in China now.  I hit him good on this one. He let me know in an email.  Ok time to eat update later.

It looks like I got lucky really lucky with the Ambon battle.  I am following Alfreds suggestion, I am defending just Ambon.  I will ferry troops from the area to Ambon.  Supply will be sent and stockpiled.  I would love to be able to get some A 24s here.  I'm kinda bummed about the CVTF moving on the redo turn.

It looks like he's heading for Mershing.  KB is just east of it.  My units are still trying to get back to Singers.  Him cutting me off would really screw things up.  Not much I can do about it.  I don't see much movement from the units at Khota Bhora.  Units are being moved around DEI by air.   Its slow but it is happening, I need time to finish this.  So Singers needs to hold on.

Units are moving around Burma and India. China hes started marching towards Yenan.  I am still trying to get LCUs to places I want to defend.  I guess I will see how much of a mess this area is in a real game.

Koniu took Tarawa, and Naru Is.  I don't see and ships around Wake.  Subs are leaving PH, I count 6 heading towards the WC.  I am sending troops to PP, Christmas Is right now.

With this defeat, I know hes going to be a slower.  He got caught with his pants down.  I hope I can make him pay more for this same mistake in the coming turns.

KB Location Coming down into the Java sea.

I need to learn my leason guys.  I gave him a redo and lost Force Z.  I did this in our last game and lost 2 carriers.    Force Z was hiding trying to ambush the CVTF if it decided to come out from Ambon area.   A 2 DD TF came out frist, put one long lance into each of my BB, and BC these same 2 DDs put around 30 rounds into them also.  Only one of the DDs took a hit and it was from one of the DDs. He also violated our HRs again.  the ampib force I caught at Ambon.  He dropped the survivors off in a non base hex.

We have a do over clause also, but involves around CVTF with squadrons set to train. I will not ask him to do over anything I do and I hope he would not want a do over because he did not like his move. Sound like a cover up. ssshhh. Kick the Nip!

Well he sent me an email after I went to work.  Stating he was sorry for the redo and the lose of Force Z.  He was really tore up.  Even stated that he wouldn't hold it againist me if I quit the game.  I am not quitting the game.  He did offer to take the turn before the redo.  I kinda would like to see what would of happened.  Maybe force z wouldn't of got its ass kiced by 2 DDs.  But I don't know. I was a lil angry yesterday, mostly at myself for not saying no.   It dosen't help that I just quit smoking cold turkey.  I am on Day 3.  its time for bed.[>:]  Oh and my vacation starts today [&o][:D]

I am really really lucky my opponet is more into the game than winning. Redo ... disregard for house rules ... sounds like winning is more important than playing .. the game consumes a lot of time .. to me that time has to be fulfilling .. just my thoughts ..

Koniu is a good opponent.  I think he made some mistakes.  I made some in our first PBEM and learned from them.  He is just now learning the mistakes that I learned at his hands.

KB location east of Palemburg.

PI
He has captured several more bases.  Not much besides air strikes and his armys moving towards Manila and Clark.

Malaya
He has landed at Mershing. I'm in danger of having alot of troops cut off if they don't start moving.  I might not be able to get the Aussie units out.

DEI
I lost 2 Dutch CLs and 4 Dutch DDs.  I thought his SAG was an amphib TF heading to Palemburg.  One CL and 2 DDs were lost to the SAG the rest to the KB.

The AI did kinda corrupt me.  But I need to learn how to play right.  Also it's so fun.  I need to think more before I make moves.  It always seems like I am a day late and a dollar short.
More tom.

No redo.  I will kick his ass without Force Z anyways.  [:D]

KB Location east of Palemburg.

PI
Typical stuff.  Airstrikes and landings.  Japs are moving towards Manila and Clark.  I have one unit cut off and disorg.  Another unit is trying to flee into a jungle hex and make it to Manila.  I have been able to get some shipping out of Manila to freedom.  Most of the HK ships made it and showed the ones in Manila the way to go.  No forts have been built at Manila or Clark.[:@]  He creates just enough damage to keep me from building them. Still evac'ing the BFs out. Just about got one completely out(minus the heavy stuff).

Malaya
He has landed at Mershing.  He can cut off several hundred AVs to the north.  I am moving forces as fast as I can south.  He bombs all my units so it might be hard.  Singers forts are going up.  It has about 480 AV.  I want to get the 2 Aussie units out and there about 200 AV.  Dang it.

DEI
Still airlifting units around.  Trying to get as many Dutch units to Palemburg as possible.  Lost the 2 CLs and 4 DDs.[:@]  I need to back up a lil and stop being so aggressive.

Nothing is going on in the Pacific.

Ok guys Monday I will be leaving for vacation.  Do Not trash my thread.[:-]  I will return sunday and will hopefully post that monday.  I will either be engaged or single.  I am taking a nap now.  please say something its getting lonely again.  Also I'm leaving the light on for anyone who gets lost and needs a place to stay.

Well, the good thing about Allies is that you don't really need a redo. Also, in not taking it you can gain cred with your opponent in case you need a redo or something similar later.

Do you have any plans for using the BBs spared at Pearl?

Oh, and good luck!

Welcome House Stark.  Actually, I just sent 2 BB TFs out.  One is heading up towards Wake it will hang back a little bit.  The other one is heading south towards Pago Pago.  I may redirect it towards Rabaul if I know where the KB and most of the mini KB is.  I am going to make some secret bases for my CVTFs and BB TFs so they don't have to go back to PH as much.  I don't know where yet.  I do have some ideas need to take a look at the map.

Yea I should have Credit.  But I think he wants to start anew with no redos or anything now.  I don't know.  We will see.  I kinda wished I would of took it.  I could of saved 10 war ships.  But I don't need them in the long haul of the game.  Carriers will meet back at PH then set out again.  They will hang back behind my MLR and wait to pounce on a TF.  More later
