1.05.18 beta Farfarer vs Fulkerson (sov)

Post by larryfulkerson »

Here's what the map looked like before any Soviet moves. He's getting a really good start out of the gate. It's a joy to see the Axis units
handled so well. I'm learning a lot. Lots of pockets are created all over the map. I've got my hands full trying to salvage something of the
situation(s) and move units forward ( or east if the need be ) to try to form a front line somewhere. That won't happen until turn 10 or so,
I know, but I can hope. Good player that Farfarer ( Dan ).

And here's the turn 2 map before any Soviet movement has taken place. Turn 2....I can finally start to rail stuff out of Leningrad. Gotta
get a head start because it'll take more than one trip. Dan captured Leningrad on turn 2 one time playing me and this time we're using
the 1.05.18 beta version and I predict that it'll be different. Maybe.

Here's the T3 front lines before any Soviet movement. Not much Axis movement this time. I guess he's letting the Infantry catch up with
the Armoured vehicles. Pockets are slowly being cleared and the frontline is moving to the east. All industry has been evacuated out of
Leningrad. I'm starting to get some reinforcements and I'm railing them to the front as fast as I can because the front line is denuded of
ground troops in a lot of places.

I'm curious what factories did you pull from Leningrad?  You could not have gotten it all out by turn 3 even by using all railcap for turns 2 & 3.  If you include the 8 arms at Vsevolzhsky the needed railcap for all arms, heavy industry, vehicles and KV1 factories would run you in excess of 260k.

Here's the T4 front lines before any Soviet movement has been done. Again, not much Axis movement. The infantry is still catching up
in a few places I guess. I'm still railing men forward and evacuating industry out of Mogilev this time. And most of the industry in D-town.
It's going to take more than one trip to empty D-town.

The South is a disaster......Dan is grabbing territory faster than I can retreat. Most of my dudes are being isolated left and right.
There's not enough reinforcements coming fast enough to re-build the front line down there, It's looking grim.

Here's what's happening in Lapland. I'm posting this picture separate so the major front lines picture won't be so big.

Things are looking a little rough for the russians for sure.

Think you'd be better served on T2 using the majority of your rail cap moving troops.

A line should be quite easily formed using the old Stalin Line fortifications, and it will give you some breathing space. Defending any further forward than that and you are going to take a bit of a hit.

Even so, depending on the quality of your units, there are lots and lots of German Panzer Regiments to pummel.

Here's the T5 front lines before any Soviet movement has ensued. Axis slashing movement only in the South this turn.

I don't recall right off the top of my head but lemme go back to the save files and look up the result for you. I'll post what I find as a new post so you won't have to keep checking THIS post to see if I've edited it or not.

Yes, this is the second time Dan and I have gone through these maneuvors and he was greased lightening in the first one too. I'm
guessing Dan has quite a good feel for what's possible and so on and uses his forces intelligently and elegently at times. I'm glad
he's playing me so I can watch and learn how the better players play. KLilly is kicking my ass too. I'm playing against a couple of good players. It makes for a more exciting game I think.

It looks like you're correct. I should have devoted more rail cars to troops and a little less to industry because he's gotten way way
further than I'm comfortable with. I'm thinking that I've already lost so many troops and that reinforcements don't come in fast enough
to keep a rudamentary front line together. If Dan ( and KLilly ) can maintain their progress with this same alacrity I'm thinking it might
just be a decisive victory already in the works.

I quite agree. I'll try.

I quite enjoy taking the edge off the sword of the Axis. And it needs to be done before too many more turns pass.

Here is the actual history of the factories in Leningrad. It looks like everything was railed out on turns 3 and 4 in two loads.

Here's what the Leningrad area looks like now. It's just a matter of time before L-grad falls so I may as well try to start pulling people to
the east and put some on the Finn-no-attack line south of the lake there before the Finns get there.

Plus side, you got all the factories out

Down side, he's got a whole Panzer Armee that has nothing to do now as there isn't a lot east of Leningrad worth going for (unless he really pushes it, and approaches Moscow from the NW, as the terrain is ideal for him)

He will be transferring substantial forces to either the south or the centre, so you will have to watch out for that.

Do you do a regular Pz and Mot Div count before you start your turn?

I do, with a spreadsheet, so I can track his armor. I find it a useful intelligence tool, though it is time consuming!

There are 8 arms factories at Vsevolzhsky which is 1NE of Leningrad.  They may still be there and should be part of the Leningrad evacuation plan.  Bad news is if they are there, the rail is now cut and will be a loss.

One thing to note, as long as you have the ports under your control, you can slip some units out of Leningrad by naval transport if you choose.

I haven't been doing anything like that but I can see how it could be helpful so I'm going to start taking notice of where all his
fast movers are from now on.

I evacuated all the industry from Krivoi Rog or however you spell it. I can imagine Dan heading there next.

There was enough rail cap to evacuate all the industry out of Kirovograd as well.
