What would you do ?

Post by Hermann »

Turn 17 russian - historical weather so its mud next turn. Nearest help is hung up at Rostov. Love to hear your thoughts on how this guy is going to get out of this one. Be aware war crimes have been committed and surrender simply isnt an option.

Please turn on hex control and maybe forts in screenshots. Without hex control visible it's hard to say anything. And what is "this guy"? One specific unit? The whole army in the Crimea? The Soviet player?

forts are on the german player rushed into the crimea through a single hex on the east an amphib landing put 3 units on his only land supply link. he has no ports and there are no friendly units anywhere nearby to free his troops. mud next turn makes it worse for him wondering how he will be able to extract his troops

Defend the 3 hexes that can be attacked from the north to the max. Send a couple infantry divisions as reinforcements. Once blizzard, or even snow, comes you can force a surrender.

im the russian - this guy is very squirrely - ive thought ive had him a few times - my question is is there much that he can do to save himself. im reinforcing as fast as i can by sea - dont think those romanians can hurt me in the mud

It looks bad for the Germans, but at one point you have a single airborne brigade defending, that's not enough.

Rail some units to Novorossiysk or another port in the Caucasus and ship them to Sevastopol or preferably Yevpatoriya, that port northwest of it, as well as to Feodosiya. He won't have any operational rail lines in the area, so reinforcing that part of the front is going to be difficult if not impossible for him in the mud. With the additional forces you ship in and with the forces already there, you should be able to force those forces to surrender.

If you don't have a combat unit in Yevpatoriya, but just that HQ and another non-combat unit (which seems unlikely as there's a fort there) he can capture it and he might think he's back in supply, but Sevastopol should block supply movement and he'd need a low port damage roll in any case as it's only a level 2 port, so if it's damaged to more than 50% it won't be a functional port.

Move the stack in the swamp hex next to the airborne brigade into the same hex as the airborne brigade and the two Rifle units in the hexes next to the swamp hex into the swamp hex. There are only 3 entry points you need to defend.

theres a combat unit. got more at the ports going in next turn. manpowers a bit thin and he took me a bit by surprise when he pushed in without clearing the neck. ill get another dozen divisions there asap - hes going to have his hands full for a few turns - just hoping i can fix it first. will reinforce the paras asap though. got some party crashers lining up at kerch as well
the units present have been refitting for months and are pretty healthy dying to see how much movement he has. really hard to kill these panzers in 41

think my mistake was worrying more about the guys inside than the ones outside - he took the hex the ab brig is in last turn, the others are there to prevent his movement.

He managed to slip through the trap - fortunately the soviet marines were up to the task and launched an invasion of the ukraine. the fight continues as the raggedy german soldiers and their pathetic allies flee for the safety of their mothers arms =)

He made it to winter and busted my chops - forgot to watch the weather schedule - on a good note though it tied down a lot of his troopies and irked him to some extent =)))
