Damn Milkweg, you certainly are in a good mood...what's the problem, is your hand in a cast so you could not get laid this morning?

Oh no, it's Jonah Falcon, the game critic everyone loves to hate. :)

Nope, you have the wrong guy.....in fact, I have not seen a Jonah forum post in many years....

Dang, too bad I'm a civilian, that sounds like fun.

I'm a civilian, I've never been stopped from getting on base. I just show the gate guard my ID and tell him where I'm going and why and they always let me in.

You have to have a valid ca. drivers license and registration + insurance.

Never been a problem for me.

I have to agree with Terminus on this one.

Then it is you that sucks and not Emos.

Insult me if you want. My opinion still stands. Software developers don't owe us anything. It is business and they do what they think will bring in a profit. Do I agree with what they do all the time? Of course not. Sometimes they goof and it bites them in the ass. Ubisoft's insane DRM policies for example.

But I vote with my wallet and refuse to buy their product.
After 16 years, Civ II still has me in it's clutches LOL!!!
Now CIV IV has me in it's evil clutches!

When I was was a kid, we had 3 TV channels here in Western Germany. Can you imagine merely 3 channels? Program started at afternoon and ended sometime after midnight with national anthem. On top of it they mostly sent 20-years-old b/w movies. Of course we could refuse to watch, but how else we had spend our evenings?

Voting with your wallet is only feasible if there are options.

I grew up with three channels. What's ironic is that I got tired of TV with all the channels available today and canceled my cable 18 months ago. One of the best moves I ever did. Don't miss it a bit.

To be honest, I think the whole propaganda anything that isn't a cinematic cover shooter or over the shoulder perspective action game definitely crosses the line.
Promoting their own product is one thing, doing propaganda against whole genres and their players is another.

This post is pretty bizarre taking in account the forum on which it's posted[:D].

Well, three available TV channels back then and two leftover publishers to buy games from nowadays. I draw an analogy here.

Apparently "whining" of the old-school gamers was heard and someone decided to make a business on it:

Where's your God now, ilovestrategy and Terminus?

Though I have to say that reading word salad like "real-time squad-based RTS action" makes my blood boil.

Go ahead and make smart ass comments. I still say that game development is a business. Game companies can either make decisions to stay in business or close shop.

For example, Matrix doesn't have the number of sales and bargains that Steam does. They would love to but they can't because of the small number of us that love detailed turn based war-games. Instead they have to charge $80 or so for WiTPAE.

I remember a post by Erik a few months ago saying that mainstream gaming is where the money is but he earns less money with turn based gaming because it's what he enjoys doing. But even though, he still has to make decisions that will keep Matrix in business.

Me personally, I don't like where gaming is going, which I feel is being dumbed down. I was disappointed in Civ V. I loved how deep Civ IV was with the number of choices I had.

Bethesda's first big RPG, Daggerfall had one of the most detailed character customizations I had ever seen in a RPG. From what I've seen their latest, Skyrim will be a lot more simplified.

Am I happy about where things are going? No, I am not. But I still say that game developers do this from a business standpoint, not some kind of conspiracy.

I said it before and I'll say it again, vote with your wallet.

Except that actually expressing your dislike for where things are going creates business opportunities for people who may offer something that goes in reverse direction. Voting with your wallet doesn't. Because how someone who can offer an alternative or gain publicity when your only expression of discontent with the current situation is not buying something?

Basically, massive discontent about stuff like that creates an opportunity for some other dev/publisher to come and say, "look, it's not true, making such games is perfectly possible nowadays. In fact, we're working on it now".
Like this:

Fallout 3 -> Age of Decadence
XCOM -> Xenonauts
Syndicate -> Cartel

I never claimed otherwise.

You have a very valid point on expressing your discontent.
