when certain groups are scheduled for withdrawl, the button is greyed out, I can only disband. Am I missing something?

I'm wondering the same thing. As best as I can tell after searching the forums, I think those air units can only be disbanded, not withdrawn. But I could be wrong.

When the withdraw option is greyed out just disband and the end result will be the same.

Some units cannot be withdrawn, they must be disbanded.

Go ahead and disband, that will meet the "withdrawal" requirement and you will not lose PPs for keeping the unit beyond it's "withdrawal" date.

Yes, but the planes and pilots will not go into the pools, so do what you can to mitigate these losses by switching out good pilots and downgrading to older planes
