Again, the deadliest plane in the allied arsenal is a biplane:

I'd say a tip of the hat to the Fleet Air Arm is in order.

Yep, extra tot for the Airey Fairies.

Yes, it's way off to the northwest.

I've lost all respect I used to have for the Indian Ocean and now find it a particularly irksome body of water.

It does have an enclosed cockpit.

That'll be it then.

It has fond memories for many a matelot. (Including this one).

So I am out walking the dogs last night and I spy this reward poster.

It says:

$500 REWARD

Wow. That gets my attention. Think how many bottles of Bombay Saphire I could buy with that?

STOLEN/LOST

Oh..it must be a breeder dog or a beloved family pet. That is a lot of money.

"Sulcata Tortoise/Requires Special Diet and Medications"

[X(][X(]

$500 reward for a ****ing turtle! [X(] Somebody has WAAAAY too much money. How could you fall for a turtle? And who is going to steal a turtle? A rogue band of soup wholesalers? The thing is probably coyote scat already.

I don't see why this is so confusing. That damn turtle stole $5000 from me!!

Dude....it's not a turtle, it's a tortoise. Hmmph...speciesist. [:-]

That's almost as sad as some do-good / know-nothing ers broke into one of the animal housing units at my wife's alma matter and released the desert tortoise they had there. They figured that it would do well in the large pond in the middle of the campus, so they set it free in there.

That's precisely where 'the authorities' found it the following day-immobile and past, I'm afraid. Gone off to meet 'is maker. Shuffled off this mortal coil and joined the choir invisible.

That has been my experience too. You meet a nice turtle. You let them into the family and then the damn thing turns around and stabs you in the shell.

Just my $.02 - I just saw last week that 4 tortoises were found in a back yard "somewhere in the swamps of Jersey". Said tortoises were of the +500lb variety and they were "crying out" according to neighbors, who were feeding them when the PD arrived.  They are apparently of the same size and from the area of the Galapago's Is. variety.  Now, what do you feed a +500 lb tortoise? and how often? and why would you pay $500 to get it back so you can feed it medication and even more food?  The world wonders...

With 7 Worcesters

Post by Cap Mandrake »

*************Dog Green Beach, Australia, 07:40, october 6, 1942*******

There is the confusion of an amphibious landing evident all along the beach.

Major Hazard, 7 Worcesters: Your report, Captain?

Captain Generic: Sir, we've encountered no hostiles, just two aboriginals on the dune over there.

Major Hazard, 7 Worcesters: SPLENDID! we've routed the little yellow bastards! I'll make my headquarters under those trees over there. A splendid day, captain!

Captain Generic: Yes, sir, very fine weather...it's just..

Major Hazard, 7 Worcesters: Just what captain? Out with it son.

Captain Generic: Well, sir...it's Dog Green, sir....wasn't that supposed to be a North facing beach?

OK...now what?

I think we shot down every single Kate on the Jap raid and 5 more that never took off. We lucked out that the Vals went after some AK's.

I added them up

20 Kate sorties
19 Zero escort sorties
26 Val sorties

That might just be one Jap fleet carrier. If so, it is extraordinary they sent it back in. These guys are NOT giving up.

From 2 days ago (battle time)

Japanese Ships
CV Akagi, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
CV Zuikaku
CV Shokaku, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
CVL Ryuho, Bomb hits 3, on fire
CV Soryu, Bomb hits 1, on fire
BB Kirishima, Torpedo hits 2
CA Takao, Bomb hits 2, on fire
CVE Hosho, Bomb hits 3, heavy fires, heavy damage
DD Suruyame
DD Ariake

As I recall, Soryu was alleged to have suffered a fuel explosion

Then Yesterday:

34 Vals
31 Zeroes
9 Kates lost as their carriers sunk

Zuikaku, no doubt ready for action. Ryuho...maybe? Soryu..maybe?

Or 11 carriers (per the mouseover) with 5 planes per carrier :-)

Yes..it could be an fiendishly clever LYB strategy to distribute the planes among 11 carriers to limit a knockout blow on one carrier.

If there really are 145 carrier planes then it has to be at least 2 fleet carriers. Of course, as there were only 43 documented Jap carrier bomber sorties detected by us last turn there is some disconnect in the "data".

I suppose the claim of 11 carriers might have been overstated. [;)]

It occured to me, because that is exactly what I would do. Think of confusion it would cause among the enemy, never knowing if my carriers actually had their aircraft or not.
