"Braunschweig" Mod B - revising support settings

Post by BigDuke66 »

Still digging thru the Braunschweig scenario I've meanwhile stumble over the support(Internal, Army, Force, Free) settings and I think about changing some.
In short, most German division form single multi unit formations using army support, Korps form single unit formations also using army support and armies multi unit formations usually using Force support, now looking at the color scheme:

German - white on fieldgray
Mech forces: gold/black on fieldgray
German S.S. - black on Field-gray

this gives me a headache because the Panzer Korps use the "gold/black on fieldgray" just like mechanized/motorized units and wouldn't work good together with the infantry that use "white on fieldgray", same counts for infantry Korps supporting mechanized/motorized units.
I wonder if this makes sense at all as the usual layout of the OOB not only in 1942 but also earlier showed again and again Korps that used infantry & mechanized/motorized units together, that such an Korps would support one of it's divisions better than another doesn't seem to make much sense.
Problem is I really don't now much about command units such as an Korps but what I see that many of the Motorized or Panzer Korps were simply renamed from normal Armee Korps, I don't see that anything special changed to justify these support settings.
That the different branches don't work perfectly together and so an infantry division doesn't support a Panzer division as good as another infantry division may make sense but not on Korps level, so I think about setting all German Korps to Force support.

Any thoughts on this?

I don't think the Germans had much problems with unit cooperation. Usually it was a problem with conflicting personalities instead of conflicting force communication/cooperation. I don't see any reason not to put the whole German side on free support. Hopefully the support features will be rewritten to make more historical sense in some way in the next release.

Free seems a bit to much, there are also the Italians and Romanians on map and a bit friction between them and the Wehrmacht seems OK.
On the other hand there were also a bunch of Romanian division attached to German Korps.
Mh difficult decision.
