Splendid show so far. We have sent the USN repalcement SBD squadron to Meekathara. The F4F replacement squadron has moved to Alice Springs and should make Meekathara tomorrow. Another F4F squadron is bound for Australia aboard Long Island. A SouPac B-25 squadron has also arrived in Alice Springs and a B-26 squadron should arrive Australia tomorrow.

Made it through another day with no torpedo hits, 9 Bastard Netties (BNs from now on) didn't fly home.

Several observations:

1) Somebody forgot to turn on the new radar sets.

2) 11,000 yd visibility is pretty good for starlight only

3) I hope there wasn't some kind of unauthorized lighting aboard Illustrious

4) Repulse sat on her thumbs (or whatever the Jackspeak expression is) in another TF.

5) At least this time the escorts sprang into action

The learning from this attack is, I think, that JJ is running out of punching power. This suggests we should pick up the tempo as Lord Admiral Sprior was inclined to do earlier. For example, Australian I Corps, which is still afloat near Geraldton could perhaps move up and be ready to go when the carriers can support the landing at Broome.

JJ has sustained VERY heavy BN losses the last two days and we have made good progress shutting down Broome airfield and making things unpleasant at Wyndham. Instead of going back to replenish the carriers, I am thinking we should bring up the Broome force as soon as the PH force is completely ashore and use the carriers to escort the 2nd landing at Broome immediately. If PH falls, the damaged vessels can port there for a bit and we can bring up ammunition ships to resupply the BB's and a destoyer tender for the torps.

Meanwhile, with a full Army division and 4 regiments of Marines and quite a bit of armor freed up on Fiji, I am assembling transports for a a possible landing at Darwin. 32nd ID was prepped for Wyndham but landed at PH. SouPac troops are also prepping for Babo and Aru Is. and Sorong and Ambon. I have not reconned these spots but that is all but a technicality. [;)]

Those 2 shell hits on Illustrious were of very small calibre. The BNs turned back without attacking.

I have ordered the Broome force up from Geraldton to Exmouth along with their BB escort.
