Troop Deployment (Or Lack Of)

Post by Darkspire »

Here is the confusion [8|]

Ive got a fleet with 6 troop transports in with 18 troops on that took moons to train.
(Yes i know further advances in the tech area will speed this process up).

I send in my fleet of two cruisers to 'soften' the planet up.

By the time the smoke clears my 6 troop transports arrive with the invasion force.

I order the transports to attack / invade and they deploy the 18 troops and within a short amount of time the colony falls and becomes part of my empire.

So far so good [:D]

Now i order my fleet of transports to collect the 17 troops on the planet (1 KIA) (right hand button order to collect from the planet they just landed on) and they move to collect.

They collect 1, 1 frackkin troop, they give the no orders, nothing to do bit (yes i have checked each ship in the fleets status, not just the fleet as a whole) and even if i try to order them again the most ill get is may 1 or 2 more out of the 17.

I just cant seem to get the troops back on to my transports, but if i wait long enough more military ships arrive and take the troops for themselves!

Ive got the whole troop automation on manual so what am i doing wrong?

Thanks

Darkspire

To answer your question, nothing it seems [:)]
Can you upload a saved game to play around with? Maybe some of us will spot the cause

I vaguely recall something about damaged troops not loading.  Check to see if your troops are all 100% fit for duty.

You are correct, elmo....and I think it goes the other way around, they won't load on ships either.

In a couple of recent games I have had transports only picking up half their complements of troops (6 capacity picks up three, four capacity picks up 2 - haven't had an odd number of troop compartments on a transport but perhaps it rounds down) when I order them directly, via the icon with the red arrow, to pick up troops. Try right clicking on the transport and selecting the option from the drop down menu. That got a full load of troops for me.

I haven't payed too much attention while this has gone on, but my impression was that ships don't necessarily fill up to their capacity with troops, they leave a few as well. It could be that the ones "missing" on the ships were injured, though.

I have had my share of giving a series of "load troops" orders to ships after invasions.

Also, do the Troop Transports have a Medical Bay aboard in their design? On
occasion, this makes a difference after a ground battle. [:)]

Funny Data....... LOL!

That statement was a bit of a 'stretch'! [:D]

You probably know that ALL Son'a vessels have 'medical' facilities aboard!

Darkspire,

You should start a thread in tech support, citing it as a bug/defect, so that the behaviour can be fixed in the expansion (and hopefully trickle down to DW and DW:RotS). Don't forget your savegame file demonstrating the problem.

Darkspire: I have the same problem with troop transports not loading troops.
1) I'd much prefer some way to choose how many get loaded/unloaded when giving a manual order.
2) I should be able to set a minimum garrison level of troops for my planets and then any TT would load everything available without leaving the planet with less than that number. A global variable, while useful, wouldn't suit as I suspect most of us leave our core planets deep within our empires undefended to strengthen troop deployments closer to our hostile neighbours.

good points and I think no 2 was never mentioned before, you should wishlist it as well.

Data: I've added it to the master wishlist thread. If you're right that its a new suggestion, I'm surprised as it's something that bugs me a lot.

I may be wrong as many of us are annoyed by it but I don't remember it. Anyway, even if the suggestion was made before it's better to have as many votes for it as possible. In fact, I'm gonna go now and vote for it.
