Western district - Not enough APs due to the patch to organize like I normally would. Due to a lot of routed units reactivating the Berezina line is stronger then usual. Any rallied units in the Ukraine were also railed north.

All western air units are set up behind the Berezina as well.

APs are spent to help organize 3rd army on the land bridge. A 5 CV division is brought up from the south to help anchor the line.

In the south my intention was to attack but quite frankly movement points were so low nothing looked really possible. I decided to create a defensive line and rail out the mountain divisions that I could. There was n0t enough rail left to do much more then that. APs were scarce so no reorganizing was possible.

Manpower and APS - I added 17k manpower to the pools from disbanding fortified zones and an HQ. Refits were turned on for aprox a dozen divisions near Leningrad 27th and the 3rd army.

I don't buy it either. The Southwestern Front should be annihilated. These extra units change everything. It means Ketza can freely use the Stavka Reserve Armies to reinforce any threatened area of his choice. He's got Strategic Reserves! And that`s a luxury you CANNOT afford when you face a Lvov mega-pocket. Reserves are gone, poof...

Ketza, could you ask him why he didn't go for the big pocket? Just curious. Maybe it's all about Fair Play... for a change [8D]

Turn 2 North - He pocketed parts of 11th army and the remnants near Riga. 11th army can be rescued. He did not advance towards Pskov but lunged towards Veliki Luki. One motorized division overran Riga. It appears as if he may not be going for Leningrad. Of course its early!

Center - He pushes 3rd Panzer north east of Minsk and crosses the Berezina then swings south to begin pocketing the river line. Small pocket near Minsk.

He attacked across the Berezina where it gets wide and established a bridgehead. He has not screened the swamps in a sufficient manner so the Calvary that was placed should be able to disrupt him and possibly open a corridor to Minsk.

In the South he pockets what was left behind. Most of what I wanted to save got out. Hopefully the remnants will keep him busy for 2 turns. He seems to be pushing past the pocket to the north so he may be content just screening the pocket and slowly reducing it which is typically what I do as Axis.

Very strange. The only thing I saw that doesn't really fit with that type of strat is I think the ports are a "must take" on turn 1 for the Germans in the AGN sector. You want to get that territory flipped and also prevent the Russians from getting away through sea movement.

This will be interesting to watch.

[X(] WoW [X(]  Now this will be interesting to see what happens, this is completely different game strategy for both sides.  I must say I have a hard time playing someone who isn't a forum member and active somewhat in the forums on Matrix.  Kudos to you sir for starting this AAR, give him hell!

2nd mech corp hits the Panzer regiment line first.

Then the 16th mech pushes the line some more. Those attacks along with the pocketed troops heading east open a slim corridor. The mech units then redeploy to a defensive line.

Never use a regiment to do a divisions job...

And the final in the corridor area. I "exploded" out as much as possible to reflip hexes with the pocketed troops.

Doesn't the analysis show Prinz Eugen sank HMS HOOD? BTW her battle ensign from that engagement is in the Black Watch Museum in Montreal, a cool place to visit.

I had not heard of that. I shall check on it.

Yeah, not to side track, but I think the theory on Eugen "sinking" the Hood had more to do with some fires she started that reached either the ready AA ammo lockers or torpedos that exploded which in turn exploded the cordite.

In the north the spearhead of 4th PZ attracts attention. The 11th army pocket is rescued and an SS division finds itself isolated. many hexes are flipped in the direction that 16th army will be coming.

In the center Axis Panzer spearheads are harrassed and 2 Panzer divisions find themselves isolated. The main avenue of Infantry approach is interdicted by Calvary from the swamps. Landbridge defenses are building up as well as the dnepr river line. 3 AP points are moved from Mogilev.
