He launched a pretty aggressive airbase attack campaign and got a bloody nose:

Are you tweaking air doctrines before finishing the turn? Really helps to get your planes up in the air when you need them.

Turn 4 South after recon - He did not make any headway against my double line. A lot of hasty attacks and several holds. His Panzer spearheads are rather beat up.

This screenshot shows what happens when AGS is not reinforced and there is no Lvow pocket turn one. Soviets have more then enough troops to delay in the open as well as begin digging the river line. There is no danger of losing Industry. 1st Panzer group is beat to hell after 4 turns.

I suppose this is the historical option. Or it could be called the short game option. We will see!

My doctrines are pretty much the same each turn. Fighter intercept is way up there at 150%.

Staraya Sinyava July 1941

This is the closet I have seen to the great mobile battles fought historically in the summer of 1941. One hex to the northeast of Sraraya Sinyava with 5 battles. The cream of the Soviet armored forces vrs the 48th Panzer corps.

And finally the massed Soviet assault slams into the 16th Panzer division and wins back the ground littered with dead vehicles.

South final - One grouping of Panzers was assaulted and the other was cut off. I did not retreat this turn as most of his infantry was still out of reach and he has shown that he is willing to attack with just his Panzers and they are getting rather weak.

The Dnepr line is manned from Kiew to D town with troops organized into armies with construction units under mainly Kharkov Front.

Center final - He seems to be diverting his strength more towards Gomel. Both Gomel and the landbridge are beefed up. Gomel is evacuated as far as Industry. He also is sending a swarm of stuff to the north of Veliki Luki.

North final - I pulled some of the stronger divisions back off the line so he could not deliberate attack them and left a screen of unready stuff on the southern banks of the river. The luga line defences are creeping along fort wise. I transferred 8th army to northern front so all those northern front planes could assist the whole line. Northwestern front will fall back to Lovat line from the lake to veliki luki over the next few turns.

My opponent showed some sloppiness this turn and did not attack in Finland.

Turn 5 battles - Soviet troops are getting tougher. Getting wins as well which is important.

26 holds
44 retreats
8 surrender
33 routs

Losses Axis phase - His armor took a hammering. The only attacks I have really given him are opportunities for hasty attacks with Panzers so his tank attrition is high. Of course my tanks losses are high as well but ill trade those steel coffins for Panzers all day.

He keeps making airfield attacks and getting hammered. For the most part I am happy with my intercepts and this is another category that I will do all day long.

North 5 start

As I though he blew away the light screening forces along the Velikaya river. As he headed north towards Pskov the better quality Soviet units slowed down his Panzers and finally stopped them with a few holds. The goal was to keep him from creating a pocket but now its time to fall back to the next line.

Center - His infantry has closed and tension mounts. His drive into the landbridge was costly for him. No bridgehead over the river yet.

Turn 5 south start - He has broken up the Sluch river line. The rest of the line pretty much held but this turn that will change as his infantry is in deliberate attack range. Time to fallback again.
