Submarines and the seamingly large torpedo salvos

Is it just me or do submarines seam to fire off a ton of torpedos at targets that historicaly took only 1 or 2 torpedos to sink. I have read several Books on Submarines in WW2 Like Clear the Bridge, I boat Captain, Das boot, Thunder Bellow ect. One reacuring them is that larger Freghiters, 10k tons or so, may of taken 3 or 4 torpedos at most and even then that number was fired to guarentee 2 or 3 hits. Smaller ships like Destroyers took 1 torpedo to criple and typicaly sink outright.

Another thnig I have noticed is that Subs only target one ship at a time when atacking multiple ship convoys, generaly several ships were targeted with the bow tubs and sometimes even the stern tubs were brought to bear.

The damage text for the subs is also kinda wacky imo,Could it be alterd to say somthing like Floding or Batrie damage, somthing more in tune with damage a sub would take when being depth charged as aposed to that common to a surfice ship.

Also It would be neat if a B-1,B-2, or B-3 class sub were available once in a while for Japan.

Ya, But I have been a War gamer since I was like 8 years old:) I used to play Tokyo Express with my dad when I was a Kid, then Games like flat top and Squad Leader/ASL, then later PC games like Steal Panthers and Bunch of others, I started flying like 3 years ago though, still play "real" war games on the side:) This one is awsome, I cant wait for it's big brother to come out.

IIRC, in silent Victory, it stated that the average was 10. s-boats only sank five ships in 1942 in the area on the map. they had too many mechanical problems. The most successful was s-44 under command of Moore. s-39 also, by sinking the meiyo maro, probably saved the 1st marine division at Guadalcanal.

This is a great game. I played alot of the original War in the Pacific when it came out. Steel Panthers was another one. I probably played more Squad Leader than anything, got all the box sets ( the ASL Stalingrad was the best wargame ever )

One thing about this game it is cutting down on the AH time- the wife only gives me so much computer time.

We will have to to some pbem when I get everything figured out.

Ain't it the truth, Milo. My AH time is reduced because of UV, too. But UV is a whole lot of fun, it's a good complement to AH.

Let me know when you feel up to a PBEM game, I'll give you a run for your money.

Not sure about the AH con this year. Will probably go, as it'll be a lot closer seeing that it's in Indianapolis.

Yes S boats had issues as did all US subs with their torpedos actualy working well early yet they still fired at multiple targets and The Japanese did not suffer from reliabality issues with their torpedos the way the US subs did. Werent their a couple British subs in this area as well, or were they farther West?

Ya Red Baracades was a lot of fun, I had most of the moduals, always wanted to get The Bulge moduals Kamfengroupe Pipper. They are publishing the ASL system again, I beleave multiman publacations is doing it.

I just surf and scan for the pick's.

I am playing my first campaigne as the Allies right now, nead the experance before I try pbem.
