Patch 2 Progress

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Patch 2 Progress

Post by Arjuna »

Hi all,

I've been squashing bugs this last week. I have just put out a new set of replacement apps for the beta testers to work on. They picked up one issue I will need to address tomorrow. This afternoon I took some time out of bug hunting to play the Battle of the Roadblocks scenario as the Americans. I really enjoyed it. Thoise Germans gave me a run for my money. I was a little too casual and didn't really appreciate how much the changes we have made have increased the offensive tempo. I scraped through for a draw.

I had to resort to a desperate counter attack by the 2.506th Para Bn to relieve the 1.506th that was being enveloped by the Germans from the north west. But I was unaware that it was in fact a double pincer and my poor footslogging paras got caught out in the open at sun up and two companies were slaughtered before I could call off the attack. I'll do better next time. [:)]

But I thought I would also show you the new AAR screen with the extra details on casualties.

Great!

There are so much number crunching going on behind the UI, and presenting anything that can help the player understand what is happening, or in this case happened, is more than welcomed. A nice addition!

Oooohh...love the new AAR....hopefully one day we will be able to click on individual units at the end of a battle to see how many they killed etc.

Hmm...I notice accident is down as a casualty in the new AAR...interesting. One day I hope like I said we can click on a unti at the end of the battle and see what casualties it had caused.

Accident doesn't seem to be a valid cause yet though. Just ready for when it is.

Bad para and glider landings will certainly fill up that category when the time comes.

Yeah, I guess... I'll just run along and check that now - so far I've only seen 30 Corps land based actions, need to check some of the airborne ones too :)

No, there's not any other UI changes. Everything else is under the hood. This is a patch remember. [:)]

That depends on the length of the hair that I have just pulled out as struggle with nailing these last few bugs.

Oh the joys of being a developer...you become a nervous wreck building the game you've always wanted to play only by the end of it that dream becomes something that crops up in your nightmares for the next life time or two and you never really enjoy the dream game.

Oh, come on! Just call them "features" like any other sensible software developer would, and be done with it already! [;)]

Any update on the patch?

No hurry, just waiting for it to release before I launch into this.

Knowing the perfectionist Dave is it's very likely he will find something testing the installer build...so don't expect it in the next couple of days...give it a week.

We uploaded the Patch #2 build to Matrix yesterday. They will nbow work up an installer build for us to test. Once this is done it can be released. Should be next week if all goes well.
