Interesting AAR for me since my long running PBEM (now 5/43) started in a similar fashion with the Manila raid.

With the Manila strike, you have the PH battleships available, but they're fuel hogs. In my PBEM game, I didn't move them from Pearl for several months to avoid draining fuel from the Oz bases. Make sure you're working on setting up your LOC from the WC to Oz, so your tanker/AK convoys can operate safely, or at least know when KB or mini-KB is coming so you can run.

Your ASW will get much better as your ships get upgrades and you can put ASW trained pilots into your squadrons.

The A-24s should have some pilots with naval bombing training to be really effective, and also if they face enemy fighters unescorted they'll go down in droves. You don't get a lot of replacements for those and it might be wise to hold some in reserve for a Japanese move against Oz.

Oh, and belated congrats BTW. [:)]

Problems fixed.

27-29th of Dec

KB unknown location

PI
Japs have reached the edge of Clark AF.  For 3 days they have been shelling or attacking the AF.  On the 28th they delib atttacked with 1:1 odds reduced my fort to 0.  We both took around 2500 casualities.  I went from 850s AV down to 550s AV.  He attacked with 1800+ AV now around 1700 AV.  He has 3 tank rgts, 4 inf rgts, 1 inf div, 2 recon rgts, 1 inf bde, 5 art, 5 eng rgts, 5 detachments or SNILFs, 2 inf bns, and the 14th army.  I don't know how long Clark can hold.  I am also wondering if I should buy the 2 P40E sqd out or let them go.  I had thought I would but Alfred has me thinking about not doing it.

Malaya
The air evac of the 2 cut off Indian bdes is going great.  I'd say 5 more days and I should have them both out.  He is sitting one hex north of Singers.  Singers is almost lv 3 forts with 850 AV.

Celebes
He has attacked Manado.  There are 3 TFs north of Ambon.  I believe they are heading there, but not for sure.  One I know is a SAG intell says 9 ships 3 CAs and thats it.   I have moved the swordfish sqd to Kendri.  Its at its max range but I got to do what I can.  I have no SAGs close I am trying to move 2 into the area.  I have set the hudsons to Lnav along with other planes in the area.  The CD unit has high morale and all guns are ready.  Almost 2 forts with 142 AV and 140 mines.  I hope the mines help me out.  I am also redirecting some subs into the area.

The rest of the world is quiet.

Ah, you remembered post #24.

Just a few more observations in favour of not spending at this stage, the PPs on those squadrons.

1. The PP cost is based on the number of planes in the unit. The fewer airframes in the unit, the fewer PPs are spent. Hence if you can still maintain an airbridge back to Australia (remember post #24 also commented on retaining Cebu/Zamboanga etc) via Ambon, you may still be able to get those units out at only a fraction of the current PP cost.

2. You can always save the experienced pilots from squadrons attached to restricted HQs.

3. I notice you are sending fighters on naval strike missions. You need to factor into the PP expenditure cost benefit analysis the value of that rarely employed tactic, particularly if you base them on one of the Filipino island airfields to strike against unprotected enemy merchantmen.

Yes Alfred I still remember. Also thanks for coming back to post.   I will shut up sit down listen when you walk into the room.  I did not know that PPs were based on the number of planes in a unit.  I do still have Cebu/Zamboanga/Taraken.  I only have 9 P40s in one sqd and 4 in another.  I have not used any of my replacement P40Es yet.  I have removed the exp pilots out of other sqds that I have disbanded. I have thought about striking merchantmen from other AFs in the PI.  If I recall you mentioned that.

My thoughts are I only have the Dutch fighters and what few Buffs, that I can save from Singers.  I want to get those P38s into well trained and free sqds so I am watching were I will use replacement AC.  I have an idea but my ideas have been bad since the start of the game.  I want to put some P39s into the Mohawk sqds at PH then put those planes into the P38 sqds freeing up the P38s.  Thats my plan.

I think I am getting a little bit more experienced with the game.  Lately I have seen ships and units in a different light than before.  AS's, ARs, and other now I miss them and should of done more to get them out.  I am seeing were I messed up earlier in the game and should of moved faster or did something else and it would of made my postions better in the future instead of at that moment.

I found a sep Inf rgt at Kodiac, I am thinking of sending it to Wake.  Just incase he decides to attack Wake.  I want him to pay for it.

thanks again Alfred

Ok turn sent.

APD Hagi was sunk and is on my sunk list.  So is 2 subs sunk by 500 lbers.  No points for these guys.  I have some A24s around Ambon now.  Maybe they can scare a few Jap ships.  17s will attack Manado AF today.  I need to shut it down so he can't base fighters and bombers here.  I have taken Alfreds advice, I will not buy out the P40s from PI.  Lets see what the combat replay shows up.

Koniu hit Koepang with a bombardment TF 2 BBs and 2 CAs not much damage.  There is several small DD or CL TFs around now.  I am going hunting for these small ones.

The same principle applies to LCUs.[:)]

The more understrength, compared to its TOE, a LCU is, the cheaper in PPs it is to change it to another HQ.

Note there is absolutely no PP expenditure incurred in changing ships to another HQ. Regularly attaching and re-attaching ships to HQs may help you in keeping track of your forces.

Alfred and Xnavytc thanks for reading and posting.  Its nice to see people are watching.

Alfred I keep learning more about the game.  I am glad that your teaching me instead of my opponent.  Thank you very much.

Xnavytc Thank you on the compliments and the congrats.  No game playing is staying the same.  Koniu has now started to take the bases on North Borneo.  He has not went for Kendari.  He did do a bombardment on one of the Timor bases.  I have got intel that he has a inf rgt moving to the base next to Baliapken(sp).  I am moving subs into the area.  PT boats are heading there now anyways.
He can take it no problems but I don't want him that close to me yet.  So I will put up as much of a fight as I dare.

I damaged one of his CLs today.  I am hunting it down now.

Clark fell today. He had brought in more inf units I haven't had time to do a good look but I know of atleast one more Div and a few inf rgts.

Got to go to work later guys.

I'm sitting here on my phone typing this out. So forgive me for all the mistakes. I think Koniu is making a mistake by not coming at me more aggressively. Maybe I'm wrong but he should have struck somewhere in the pacific by now. He should be trying to attrit my AC more. I have 25+ P40Es, 15+ P39Ds in my pools. His subs aren't doing much by patroling around PH.

I am afraid that he is planning a major attack on Oz or somewhere. The more time the rest of the Pacific is quiet, the more I want to move my troops foreward. I am doing good at being patient now but I'm itching to pull that trigger. If you can't tell I'm bored.

My pilot training is coming along well. I have a bunch of asw pilots in the 50s. I'm hoping that by the end of Jan I can have them looking for subs. The problem is these are Brits and they don't get really any good asw AC. Also haven't seen any subs in the Burma India AO. I know there are a few in DEI.

I'm wondering if sending an army rgt to wake is a waste. I know if he wants it he can take it, but the longer he waits the harder it will be for him. I'm adding an army CD unit their with the marine one. If I'm not mistaking the eng unit there will leave in a few months so I'm looking for an eng unit that will be available if I needed it. I'm also sending an acm to keep the minefield under control.

Eng units (naval) are heading to Attu (I think). Oh yea and a pot svc unit with a combat eng bn. I will also send up there an army cd unit.

Pago Pago has lots of engs present and heading to it. I will max PP out then move one eng unit to suavii to build it up. 2 marine cd units with the 8 th marines and sev art units. I will move all the 2nd marines here once the rest are bought. I have 2 marine fighter and db units heading here.

Canton not much is coming here. PT boats and some cats for search. I have SAG here to rough up any landings here or at Baker Is.

Christmas Is will be a hub base. Lots of engs are being sent here just like PP. One inf rgt will be here soon. I have a small SAG here to protect shipping.

Suva eng units are on the way. I will move some air units here soon.

Nomeua (sp) I am thinking of sending one of the Aussie cd units here. Maybe some Aussie eng, not for sure. I want to keep this area.

I have some engs units prepping for Ideni and Espirtu.

Port Morsby I have flown in all the coy units and combined them. I am bringing in the 53, 39 bns to form that brigade. I will bring ing one more eng unit. I have one of the A24 units training close by. I'm wondering if i should try and start building up Milne Bay.

If you send significant reinforcements to Wake, you will almost certain exceed the 6k troop stacking limit. Go over the limit your supply consumption will increase; markedly if you are way over the limit. Then you will find yourself tied to regularly protecting your resupply convoys to Wake. Would be quite easy for them to be ambushed by the enemy.

You don't have any at the moment, but eventually the British receive several level bomber models with radar. Any plane with radar, not just Patrol Aircraft, makes a fine ASW aircraft.

You are correct in noting your opponent is being too passive. Time is not on Japan's side. AE features quite assymetric periods where one side is greatly advantaged over the other. When in the ascendancy, full advantage must be taken.

Be careful about sending good units forward to Noumea.  They are liable to get cut off.  Also, a CD unit there is probably useless against all but a very inexperienced opponent.  Most IJ players will land at Koumac or La Foa and march overland to Noumea.

P.S.  I haven't been following this AAR until I just popped in, so I'm not privy to details about what's gone on to date and the relative experience and competency levels of the players.  So forgive me if my comments are unnecessary.

Thanks again Alfred for posting.

Yes, I'm watching the stacking lv on Wake. The cd unit heading that way is the one that gets disbanded early in 42. I'm also waiting till that and the eng unit leaves before I bring in another eng unit. I am thinking of stockpiling supplies at Midway and using 2 AKLs to transport supplies to Wake. If he dosent show any interest in Wake I might put an AS up there.

I will have to look and see what AC the Brits get. I have found that the 4 plane units in india will gain exp really quick.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that he is moving slow. I'm not complaining. I haven't really looked at the Japanese OOB but they have to have enough LCUs and ships to carry out some ops in the Pacific. I can understand not bombing Pburg but he should be hitting my other bases. I'm just now seeing AC in Malaya. I'm not seeing anything in Burma either. I just don't know what he's planning. He's a good player. I'm trying to see where he will attack and be ready but he's not coming.

The games within a game are nice I do have to say. Pilot training and logistics is kinda fun. It takes awhile to get ships to a certain port and then take there cargo to another. So much crap to watch and plan for but oh so much fun.
