Ingenious player work arounds the intention of limiting air base bombing; this is why things go beta: so players can find the loop holes and then Pavel can fix them; perhaos a hard stop Det Limit of 5 for airbases.

Who pissed in your morning coffee?

Anyway, the axis need air superiority the first few turns to get anything done.. they had excellent intel on soviet airbases so I don't understand your frustration here. Average losses are a good 1000 lower on the first turn and it is very risk to bomb airbases without escort as soviet response is strong...

Hi
I am a rookie at this game.. I'm not sure on the way to go, I did:
1. Set all upgrades to manual
2. I flew recon flights to all soviet airfields
3. Set the air doctrine, airfield attack and escort to 100 each
4. Bombed airfields until they had only a few aircraft left, closest ones first

I get around 3800 kills versus 150-200 of my own, what am I doing wrong?

You are getting more kills than I usually do ( 2800 ~ ) and I can't find any fault with your settings etc. I don't think you're doing anything wrong per se. Are you hand picking the groups to fly the mission OR are you right clicking to let the AI handle the assignments? Are you bombing the furtherest airfields first or the close-in ones first? Enquiring minds want to know.

EDIT: I just thought of something. What's to keep the Soviet player from doing this: Buy a PVO AAA unit when they become available, train it up to full-strength and then make it a practice to move *it* first from somewhere to somewhere else just to get the Axis interceptors to interdict it and fly their missions against a known, fully-trained, fully-staffed AAA unit. Those things were designed to shoot down planes and the losses could become prohibitive for the Axis. What would happen to the Axis losses if the Soviet player had one of those guys in each front? Two of them in each front? Etc.

Do PVO AAA units show up as counters you can move? (I'm on turn 7. I build them, but never see them except as a support unit.)

I got around 4200 now, a 20 to 1 kill ratio. I first attacked each airfield with 1 bomber squadron and 3 fighter squadrons a few times then increasing the number of bomber squadrons, it seems like the soviets fighters are less likely to go up in the air after each attack which means more aircraft get blasted on the ground. I found that stukas and HE 111s are the most effective bomber units. Looks like the key to get many kills is to bomb airfields far away, which means bombers only, easy ones here are the airfiels at Bobruisk and Korosten. I bombed out the closest ones first (alternating between those airfields that cover for eacother)then I bombed those far away. I'm not sure if all this effort really pays of as Luftwaffe losses are like 200-250 aircraft while the soviets just lose junk.
