Code 42 Test Results

Post by witpqs »

I ran this test using DaBabes Sceanrio 28C, with Andrew's extended map. The purpose of the test was to see if India's Emergency Invasion Reinforcements can be triggered when either Socotra, Dante, or Masirah are invaded. Those last two bases are additions made possible with the extended map.

The country code for India is 42, while the country code for the three bases and all the land contiguous with them is 41. I used dwbradley's excellent pwhex, et al editor to change the country code for those three bases to 42 (same as India), but I did not bother to change the land contiguous with the bases for the test.

I unwittingly began the test under Beta m6, and halfway through upgraded it to Beta q6. All of the actual activation tests took place under q6, while the 'game' began under m6 and part of the movement to contact was under m6. All Allied air was stood down and inconveniently placed TF disbanded. The IJN fleet oiler force was moved to Cam Rahn Bay to rendezvous with a TF consisting of whatever loaded ships were there to begin with. The TF then loaded fuel cargo up to its capacity to allow the test, and then set a fairly direct course to Socotra. When the TF was one day out from Socotra the game was saved, so it could be reloaded for testing Denta and Misarah.

For all three bases, the unloading of Japanese land forces in the hex resulted in the immediate release of the Allied Indian Emergency Reinforcements.

The reason for running the test is that I have felt that if Japan seized Socotra (and now also any of the newly added bases Dante or Misarah) the Allies would have presumed that conquest of India was underway and would have responded accordingly. I decided to run the test to see if the game code could easily be made to reflect that. It can, simply by modifying the pwhex file.

So, any mod that wishes to can make use of this technique. Alternatively, any player(s) could make this (pretty easy) change whatever mod they choose to play.

witpqs,

I don't recall whether at the time you followed the Moose's Emergency Reinforcement tests on the main forum. You might care to repost this thread over there as a useful bookend to his standardised (for easy searching) threads. Particularly useful as the standard map does not trigger the reinforcements if Socotra is invaded.

I thought that a Kuriles invasion already released Japan's home invasion reinforcements?

Don't believe so. In my last PBEM with Joe, our opponents invaded the Kuriles in the typical Raid/Occupy/Bugout (partiallly) move i've seen a number of times. Now that i think of it....Player one should have a similar rule for all inner zone invasions given the dearth of forces available to defend those areas. The Kuriles gambit is particularily annoying because the game fails to properly simulate the poor conditions of that region from Dutch Harbor to the Kuriles. In the game its an easy shortcut and virtually undefended in early 42.

I remember an AAR - was it a CR? - where the Kuriles were retaken with some of the Home Islands stuff that arrived. Anyway, Bullwinkle's thread will show it if I can find it.

witpqs, serious good on you for finding this. And more good on you for posting it so that folks who want to can can tweak it.

@ Nik, not sure what's up with the Kuriles. Two parts to the equation; is the base within the "magic box"? Does the base have the "right" nationality notation? Part 2 is hard to figure, since Dave's editor has different text entries (and numerics) from Andrew's editor (that I'm using). The entries, between the two are inconsistent as to ownership.

Would like someone to do a test, like witpqs', to see if a Kurile invasion will activate the addl Japanese forces. I would suggest Paramushiro Jima (137 : 047) and Etorofu (128 : 052) as test corners.

Thanks. J

I will unless Bullwinkle's prior tests answer that question. I just haven't located his thread yet.

Please do it anyway, pal. There's some numeric editor data things I would like to get righteous with. Your inputs would be very helpful.

Country Code 101 Results

137 047 Paramushiro Jima NO
128 052 Etorofu NO
124 046 Toyohara NO
126 043 Shikuka NO

Invasion of the Kuriles and Sakhilins does NOT yield invasion reinforcements.

Also sent an invasion force to clear hex between two bases at the extent of the Country Code 100 area.
Result = Yes

Changed the country Code of hex 137 047 (where Paramushiro Jima is located) to 100.
Result = Yes

So changing the Kuriles, etc. to Country Code 100 would enable them for invasion reinforcements.

So, Country Code 101 yields no invasion reinforcements. Country Code 100 does yield invasion reinforcements.

Thanks vettim!

JWE,

One thing I have noticed is that in the pwhex editor all of the hexes have 0 for stacking limits. I'm referring to the bottom entry in the hex display, not the one about island size.

Does Bradley's pwhex editor not pick up the stacking limits, or do I have a pwhex that doesn't have them?

Edit to add: I just verified that my starting point for making the edits was the pwhex trio of files from Andrew's site that DaBabes site pointed to. Really not sure why no stacking limits are showing up in the pwhex editor.

Hi witpqs, and thanks for the test.

The main page of the ExtendedArt site has AB's Extended Map and the "normal" pwhexe, pwzone, pwzlink files. The pwhexe with SLs, is on the Extended Map Data - Stacking Limits sub-page.

Downloaded AE Extended Map Data with Stacking Limits.zip from https://sites.google.com/site/extendeda ... ing-limits page and sure enough there they were in Dave's editor. Lunga (114 : 138) looks like this:

OK, thanks. I've confirmed that I downloaded both with stacking and without stacking, but I loaded up and tested "without stacking".

Do you want the tests again? It's no big deal since I made save games just before landings commenced and new pwhex data does get picked up.

Cool. Glad you got it sorted out.

Not necessary. SLs only effect SLs [;)] All else is the same. Thanks again.
