RE: Thinz2 vs Zuluhour
Question:
I have B17D models under RAAF HQs in Australia. I want to upgrade them to E models as they are subject to heavy CAP patrols over targets. I have 22 model Es in the pool (Its March 42) but it says I m not scheduled for upgrade now. Can I not upgrade past the date?

You can upgrade any time you have airframes for the upgrade in the pool. However you do have to meet the upgrade conditions as specified in s.16.2.3 of the manual. The most common player oversights which explain not being able to upgrade are being at an airfield too small or the base the not having sufficient supplies.
If the base is a level 7 airfield and you have 20k supplies, it should be possible to upgrade. Hencethe request for a screenshot as there may be some other tiny detail you have overlooked which is preventing the upgrade.

Bad news: Previous report of sinking of CV Shokaku incorrect. Intelligence reports ship is still in service
I guess the reported fuel air explosion just thinned out the crew.
Thanks Alfred, that explains why when I have staged the B17s through Sydney and upgraded I have had no problems. Townsville had the supply but not the field size.
waiting on the turn.
SoPac: Landing force on the way to Luganville, about 240nm from Suva yesterday. Additional supplies from Noumea in route. Two B17 squadrons to ferry BFs from Noumea.
Burma: An AVG squadron will sweep Moulmein for Nates as its been way to quiet since the Japs entered Rangoon.
Pear Harbor: Sara and Lex will be pierside for three weeks for refits. Most of the DDs are done. P40s enroute to II fighter Cmd HQ while P40s from the mainland are enroute to Pearl.
East Coast: Large supply and fuel TFs are going to begin arriving at the newly enlarged ports of Noumea and Suva. DBs are also enroute as anti ship measures.
Sumatra/Java: The Japs northeast of Batavia have not moved since landing some time ago. The IJA at Palembang now occupies the western and southern approaches. surrounded! No matter as I have no intention of leaving. There is very little left of the Dutch AF. Many aircraft lost over IJN TFs around the confluence of Java Sea and the Indian Ocean. Man I wish I had saved my Biplane squadrons for the current situation there now.
China: I dont want to talk about it. Man did I create a FUBAR. I may be on trial for genocide.
PI: Bataan: The boys are are out of rations. Rumors of rats on sticks. They still hold.
Zulu HQ: Looking forward to Thursday billiards night at the O club. The O club, located in the Ratskeller of Zulu HQ, will host the usual cultural advisors and I believe the libations will be of the 80 proof variety as I will have to explain how I lost a quarter of million Chinese in thirty days.

What was he thinking doing that. I'd say he's got shrinkage going on. Plus some puckering too.

Afternoon Air attack on 103rd RAF Base Force, at 59,46 (Mandalay)
Weather in hex: Heavy rain
Raid detected at 39 NM, estimated altitude 15,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 13 minutes
Japanese aircraft
G4M1 Betty x 69
Allied aircraft
H81-A3 x 8
Hurricane IIa Trop x 4
Hurricane IIb Trop x 5
Japanese aircraft losses
G4M1 Betty: 8 destroyed, 2 damaged
No Allied losses
This is the first unescorted raid of the war caught in an allied CAP trap. I believe his Nates and Zeros are operating out of Siam and have not moved forward to Moulmein. The Kido Butai has gone missing now for over a week and I fear it will rear its head in SoPac. There are over 50 ships in convoys in SoPac right now and will need another week to ten days exit the theater. 7th Australian Div is half way home to Perth. 6th Australian Div: 2 Bg are on rails to Calcutta while PPs remain for the third in Karachi. PPs are now getting real tight and some tough choices are in the offing.

RE: Thinz2 vs Zuluhour
nice to see u back Zulu you got alot of things going on at once.
RE: Thinz2 vs Zuluhour
The turn cycle Terry and I have makes it difficult for me to keep up the AAR the way I would like. I get a turn early am, get it out before work, and get another late. No complaints; I like the pace of the game this way, just makes it tough to keep up. In regards to above, Yeah alot of dominoes could fall soon but nothing (except the Chinese) I was not ready or able to prevent in the way of sacrifice. I am heavily involved planning OpBarb (Operation Barb) and will be asking for advice very shortly. Thanks for checking in!! It can get lonely at the top[:D]

RE: Thinz2 vs Zuluhour
March 30th:
Heres what this newbs wrestling with:
Carrier Ops
In Port: Aircraft upgrades / fill out groups
Leader checks (fighter) inspiration
Leader checks (dive bomber/torpedo plane) inspiration
Captain: Air skill / aggression
At Sea: Oilers at point luck for re-fuel before run to target up to 320nm from assembly area
(8 hexes)
Assembly area: 520nm from target (13 hexes) (US CVTF). This assumes the CVTF wishes to utilize F4F
Escorts over the target. The presumption is the TFs will move through the night 160nm
Closer to the target, emerge in the daylight naval movement phase and proceed the final
160nm to the launch area 200nm from the enemy position. The hope being, by using the
night, it may be possible to “surprise” the enemy and pre-empt as his Bettys and Nells
are pre-occupied with land Ops. It also supposes the arrival of the TF 5 hexes from target
while being the final hex moved to during the phase, will allow time for a strike to be
launched and recovered. Does the game engine see this as a “as time allows” tactic or
simple matter of phases, ie naval movement (TF arrives at final hex) air combat, your there
time is not an issue.
Retirement: I am trying to figure out my egress routes. What am I getting wrong here? If I want the Big
E to leave the area at full speed that evening she will be under orders to use full speed for
24 hours? That would use 40+240=280x18=5,040 endurance? Only the DDs with 8000 and
6500 endurance levals could stay with her through the 24 hours.
Zulu HQ: It is March 30th 1941, I want to launch OpBarb (Operation Barb) by the third week in April.
The Op will involve at least three carriers at the point of the spear.
Recap: Day one: 25 hexes from target (oilers)
Day two: run to assembly area 17 hexes from target
Day three: strike: run final 12 hexes at full speed (remain on station?)to launch area?
Or (using cruise/mission speed)
Day one: 21 hexes out refuel
Day two: 13 hexes out (probably lose the darkness covering approach)
Day three: strike: 5 hexes from target (remain on station?)

OpBarb will involve 6 airbases, five carriers and 150 B17s, just so you get the scope.
