An Infantry Scenario - Here - Now

Post by Redleg »

Here's a semi-historical battle set in Morocco during 1924. Actually, I made it as close to the real situation as possible.

A pure infantry fight so I know it isn't for everyone.

3 hours of intense, brutal infantry combat in high, desert mountains.

Many thanks to Fradar for some excellent playtesting.

Here's the text file description:

____REBELS IN THE RIF*

Note: This battle should be played with all options set to default. C/C should be turned off in order to facilitate maneuver. The human must play the Repubican Spain side (Player 1).
**

Background**
Several tribes of Moroccans banded together and revolted under the leadership of Abd El Krim who appointed himself "Prince" of the Rif mountain area in Morocco. The fighting raged on for years with the Rif Rebels inflicted terrible losses upon Spain.
Gradually, Spain had accumulated so many casualties that it was not politically feasible to withdraw from the Protectorate in Morocco. So a "Foreign Legion" was created to bolster the
regular army in Morocco. This was to be an elite force modeled after the French Legion. But, conditions were so harsh that less than 10 percent of the Legion was made up of foreigners.
**
Still, Spain pursued the goal and its "Foreign Legion" was trained and was assigned to put down the Rif Rebellion.
**

This scenario is loosely based on the fighting in Morocco. The Rif rebels were quite well armed, having captured several hundred artillery pieces and many machine guns and light weapons from their victories over the Spanish army. Eventually, Abd El Krim issued his own currency and appoint government officials.
**

Spain had built many block houses along the line marking what was considered to be a secure region. Typically, these fortifications were about a quarter of a mile apart and lightly
garrisoned. But the need to provide for supply and reinforcement caused severe logistics problems.
**

In this scenario, several Spanish blockhouses are being attacked by Rif tribesmen.
The blockhouses are manned by regular Spanish forces. Two companies of the Legion are to move foreward and relieve the garrisons. The player must decide how to deploy his forces
and attempt secure the v-hexes from occupation by the AI.
**

The scenario is a little slow to develop but momentum builds and action should continue through to the 20th turn.
**

For more information about the Rif rebellion in Morocco, see "Betrothed of Death" and "Rebels in the Rif". The former book focuses on the history of the Spanish Legion during the Rif Rebellion.

Armor? Who needs it? ;)

Actually, this is a scenario I like because it is quite different. I also has a pretty decent and different desert map. But it is a tough fight.

SPWAW models infantry pretty well, I think.
