RE: The Stone and the Waves
Brief news...
The perfect turn
We closed Rekata Bay and damaged Munda during the night. A bombardment run occurred at Auki too.
In the morning several air attacks but only against Lunga baits...Franks in action but we achieved a 50 against 125 kill ratio...
Not a single mission against my landings.... that took place in the afternoon and went smoothly.
Same for the second day. His Netties seem to have lost their grip cause even when the pass through my CAP they barely hit a thing...
After the end of the second day we have 1250 AVs ashore and 60k supplies. Enough to take the base. we can go home[:D]
KB again under severe showers didn't launch...and at Auki my landings were aided by a terrible weather that prevented any air mission... talk about luck and war...
As foreseen Auki is defended only by a battered garrison unit and several base forces...we'll get them tomorrow.
Now i have to rush for the kitchen...need to cook :-/

RE: The Stone and the Waves
Great job. The last two turns have been nice, can't wait to see the full report of this one.

1) GJ is swallowing breath mints like candy in hopes of laying a refreshing kiss on his sweetie
2) After weeks of reading the manual, GJ has managed to get down 2/3rds of the steps to playing Tic-Tac-Toe.
3) GJ is on still on the clock at work, but the clock aint tickin' quite right

RE: The Stone and the Waves
It will be interesting to see Raders response. Could it turn into another Rennel Island?
You take my life but I'll take yours too
You fire your musket but I run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand there's no turning back.

RE: The Stone and the Waves
mang, this GJ guy don't halfway know how to ratchet up the tension 'mongst his fan-base! ntm i just loved his tactic to delay the assault for a turn, so as to attrit the enemy air again. P-47s rule!
this re-direct to Auki will be controversial - grabbing this low-hanging fruit improves Allied control of Solomon air-space, but delays the Allied thrust. otoh, all the assault forces will retain their prep for the 1000's target. heh, if GJ thought it was nasty to assemble his AmphTFs at Ndeni, imagine his grumbling as he repeats the exercise for an Auki-1000's assault while under direct air-threat.
i vote YES on all three of Canoerebel's possibilities, however i vote NO on GJ's proposal to send the GF home early.

I cut most of the attacks cause they can be boring....however always the same story...my Lunga CAP fought hard and well
Then, in the afternoon, the landings take place...and they go particularly well...months of bombings have clearly softened the defenders...

I cut most of the attacks cause they can be boring....however always the same story...my Lunga CAP fought hard and well
Then, in the afternoon, the landings take place...and they go particularly well...months of bombings have clearly softened the defenders...
At dawn the japs come out of their holes and make a bombardment...we already have 1240 AVs on the beaches!!!!!!!!

RE: The Stone and the Waves
Clearly if the KB wasn't under the heavy rain for two days in a row things may have gotten worse...but over Auki i had more than 400 fighters on CAP...for sure i had lost some ships but the KB's crews would now be massacred....while the KB remains a problem now...
My CVs stayed well beyond the line of fire...and he didn't even spot them today...his search gets crippled by my fighters at TLT and they seldom are able to pass thorugh to see what's beyond near ndeni...
Now i've ordered my invasion fleet to flee back to Ndeni. An ASW screen composed of 5 ASW TFs is ordered, while the precious APA/AKAs are grouped in a fast convoy, well escorted, leaving behind the slower LSTs and LCI and some SCs...
Our 1st US CORP will attack tomorrow and i'm pretty sure to conquer Auki.
Mines have been laid at Thousands and a small cruiser Fleet (Hawkins and Omaha Class CLs, along with Fletchers) will get back to Tulagi, rearm and then back to Auki...just to attritt his surface fleets if he ever dares to come in...then they will retire towards Ndeni.
Rotating squadrons at TLT...the battered defenders of Lunga will be relieved and substituted by fresh crews from Ndeni...
Landing barges will get back to Tulagi in order to be disbanded...
intensive turns....

RE: The Stone and the Waves
ORIGINAL: jmalter
mang, this GJ guy don't halfway know how to ratchet up the tension 'mongst his fan-base! ntm i just loved his tactic to delay the assault for a turn, so as to attrit the enemy air again. P-47s rule!
this re-direct to Auki will be controversial - grabbing this low-hanging fruit improves Allied control of Solomon air-space, but delays the Allied thrust. otoh, all the assault forces will retain their prep for the 1000's target. heh, if GJ thought it was nasty to assemble his AmphTFs at Ndeni, imagine his grumbling as he repeats the exercise for an Auki-1000's assault while under direct air-threat.
i vote YES on all three of Canoerebel's possibilities, however i vote NO on GJ's proposal to send the GF home early.
the GF sent home early enables me to do 2 more turns tonight and to update the AAR...Life is made of priorities...[:D]

tic tac tic tac tic tac tic tac tic tac....
One of three possibilities here:
1) GJ is swallowing breath mints like candy in hopes of laying a refreshing kiss on his sweetie
2) After weeks of reading the manual, GJ has managed to get down 2/3rds of the steps to playing Tic-Tac-Toe.
3) GJ is on still on the clock at work, but the clock aint tickin' quite right
Doesn't in english saying "tic tac" simulates the noise produced by a watch and so the flow of time?
RE: The Stone and the Waves
Tick Tock, Tick Tock.
One observation is how few bomber sorties came in, have you decimated him or was this a plan to attrit your fighters and his bombers come in tomorrow??
IMHO, the JFB would be resigned to losing bases, but wants to take out so many Assualt shipps you run short before you get to japan.
Be ready for his next moves!

Oct 20, 21 1943
Terrible battles over the skies of Auki.
Rader doesn't want to let his men in a POW camp...so, while my LCUs attack and conquer Auki with ease, he sends, on the 21st (the 20th saw a awful weather) waves after waves of first class fighters against Auki, in order to open the way for a entire float transport fleet of Mavis-Ls to take his garrison unit back to Rabaul...
The battles that followed took place between my leaky CAP and his sweeping fighters and, despite the odds and the unfavourable tactic conditions, we obtained again an astonishing 3-1!
The following day after the fall of Auki, the entire japanese army was destroyed and now 15,000 japs are in my POW camps...
No bombers attack today, nor any attempt of a surface engagement or a coup de main of the KB....my APA/AKAs arrived at Ndeni, along with all my fleet, safe and sound!
