Soviet Winter Opperations Dec41 to March42 (Manstein63 V Sveint) NO SVEINT PLEASE UNTIL TURN 30

This will be a short AAR dealing with my attempts as the Soviet Supreme Military Commander to destroy & or to inflict as much damage as possible on the Axis forces that are facing me. This game was started with the 1.04 patch & at the moment we are running 1.05.32 beta & will upgrade as necessary. Game turn 25 is about to commence.

At the moment I am waiting for my opponent to send back his part of the turn so there will be no pictures in this post but I will post pictures in subsequent posts

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Axis forces have advanced eastwards but have failed in their attempts to capture both Lenningrad & Moscow (Lenningard has been isolated but still supplied through lake lagoda). They have however captured a line running from Tula to Voroshilovgrad & Tanarog Soviet forces in these area's have been falling back in order to shorten the front line & to free up forces for our winter counter offensive. Preliminary assaults have already taken place to the west of Moscow & in the Lenningrad / Volkov area, which is designed to identify weak points in the line & to destroy or damage his forward fortifications (Arial recon has not picked up any major fortifications behind his front line)

OBJECTIVES

STAVKA has issued limited objectives for this offensive namely the towns of Berlin Budapest & Bucharest I however believe even such a modest set of objectives may be beyond the reach of our forces. & have therefore prepared contingencies.

i. Restore Land supply line to Lenningrad

ii. Recapture Novgorod & pocket as many Axis units east of the Volkov river as is possible

iii. Where possible tie down & isolate German armored formations (assume that these will be held in reserve behind Axis front line forces)

iv. extensive use of arial recon to identify possible reserve groupings (maximum effort given to VVS interdiction missions)

v. Recapture Tula & Kaluga & advance toward Smolensk

vi. Recapture Voroshilovgard advance toward Kharkov Kursk & Stalino

vii. Possible breakout from Crimea in support of advance toward Stalino

As you can see the Axis Commander has withdrawn some of his forces. so I will be able to link with Lennigrad & recapture Voroshilovgrad without having to engage in combat

The Crimea

Some of my objectives will fall easily but others will be more difficult to acheive. I need to identify where the german tank formations are & try to get him to commit them to the front line where I can attempt to envelope & destroy them. which I hope will curtail any offensive actions on his part in the summer of 1942.

Soviet forces have begun the winter offensive Lenningrad Front has linked up with the main front line ( this was due to the Axis withdrawing rather than any action on our part. this is the situation in the Lenningrad area

Volkhov Front has also launched an offensive with the objective of linking with the Lenningrad Front at Novgorod

To help with the Volkhov Fronts offensive Nortwestern Front has committed the 10th Airborne Brigade to an airlanding behind Axis lines managing to disrupt the railway link & threataning nearby airfields & HQ's. I hope that this may force him to withdraw troops from the front line to protect against any further airborne opperations.
