Merry Christmas to all. The white flags are up on both sides, as the Red Army has agreed to a temporary cease-fire. As we enjoy the sparse amounts of bread and broth by the light a single dim candle, and endure the bitter cold of our bunkers, our thoughts are of friends and family many thousand kilometers to the west. Regretfully, these thoughts soon will return to all we have known for these past months........self-preservation and survival in this unforgiving, frozen hell.

Interestingly, this is an actual exerpt from a letter written by the grandfather of a close friend. I translated it to the best of my ability, so i cant attest to its complete accuracy (my German is not the best).

Thought i would share it with you......kind of puts things in perspective, and makes us appreciate the way most of us will spend Christmas.
