Interdiction in 1.05?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Interdiction effects have definately been up'ed in one of the last iterations. I agree with the above post that it seems to occur less frequently when fighter air bases are close to the moving units. Although obviously the presense of friendly fighter bases doesnt ensure immunity to interdiction. And interdiction effects -- form what I've seen thus far -- does seem to affect both sides equally.

I've been playing 1.05 a fair bit and I reckon we will see a lot more disscussion about this as others get a better sense for the enhanced interdiction effects.

I'm looking at it more from the perspective of the affects we currently see in-game vs. what we might all expect in say War in the West when it eventually comes out. WiTW will potentialy reflect huge numbers of Anglo-American tactical air units running interdiction missions in the face of zero Luftwaffe presense. If we are seeing these enhanced in-game interdiction effects during a period of the war when such effects were historically speaking considerably less notable, what sorts of surprises are we in store for in 1944-45 and WiTW? Will German units in 1944 and 45 routinely have zero MPs as a result of interdiction attacks?

I can't recall any references of the Soviet air force having any great interdiction effects in the summer of 1941. It seems over stated to me. Hate to think what it will be like in 43/44 then.

+1

How many tons of fuel are represented by 6 MPs for a panzer or motorized division? How likely is it for aircraft numbering fewer than 10 to destroy that amount of tonnage? How many times per week?

I wouldn't complain about this if it hadn't come so suddenly and unexpectedly, and if interdicting aircraft seemed to be vulnerable, but it seems they are highly invulnerable.

We still have what I consider to be very unrealistic and problematic down-stream impact from biplanes being awesome in 1941.

The Germans couldn't maintain air superiority everywhere in 1941. Where they did focus their air efforts, the Soviet air force suffered greatly. However, in those areas without German air superiority, Soviet air attacks were effective in significantly slowing German advances.

Fair enough but I am seeing these small flights of interdictors fly thru the teeth of the Luftwaffe fighters with impunity and wreak hovac with my high MP expoiting units, BEFORE they reach the breakthru hex. I am going to try and load these units up with attached flak and see if that helps. Its nuts right now.

Yeah, I'll be the first to admit that the air system is severely lacking. Due to the turn based system, you have these point to point air missions which should be covered more as sectors or zones of coverage in which you can assign air groups specific roles such as interdiction, air superiority, close air support, etc. The main failing is that the player has almost zero input, other than strategically placing airbases, in his air campaign's main efforts so they end up getting diluted all over the place in missions in which the game decides, not the player.

The interdiction adds an element of tension to the game; instead of being able to coldy calculate a move and attack with precision - there is an element of unknown and that is a good thing.

BTW: Michael please leave me a few units to push around the map....

2)Formula Change – Reduced the possible MP reduction due to interdiction attacks.

I knew it wasn't right.....

Does the Interdiction routine allow for night movement by land units, so much reduced chance ( in those days) to attack? In France 1944 you are going have t to have "Move by Night Only" option with appropriate penalties.

I suppose airfield attacks are clients way to handle so called "air superiority" fights? They can be controlled
by the player. The problem is, that currently airwar balance doesn't work realistically. It favors too much
Soviets. The human soviet player can cripple Luftwaffe before the first winter. The Germans are getting
too heavy casualties while doing airfield bombings. While Soviets are rolling with all those biplane hordes,
German MP can't stand with all those dozens of attacks and then the killing starts. In real the German
airwings maded a lot of missions / day.

- German planes should have more flight time
- Soviet old-model planes should be made even more low quality,
so they would get more casualties and they should have less flight time
- Soviet AA guns should be a lot less effective in 41-42 (they can stack a lot of them, while Germans can't)
