Terry is very methodical. I have never seen a daylight Jap raid without heavy front line fighter escort which I do not recall being able to penetrate. He sweeps me hard and long with Zeros and occasional Oscars, recons, sweep some more then bombs at night, then then then he sends in 50+bombers with front line fighter escort. I try to cap at 20M (wildcats at 24M) but the sweeps are devastating against all but veteran (70+) pilots which seldom even match the zeros one to one. I even have to post CAP at night although Im getting to know Terry better and are taking better guesses. In SoPac and Port Morseby I am experimenting with highly trained P39 pilots at 9M and P40s at 20M and wildcats at 23-24M. Ill let you know.

Koniu is like that also.  He does the same thing.  I have been lucky the last few turns.  I hope it keeps.   CAP at night dosen't produce many kills but it does throw off the bombers aim.

Alfred, How right you are, recon shows 100+ AFV in Pegu. I am reconing Rangoon again now. The new RAF recon groups, even with low experience, are a nice asset. Some movement of forward units to expedite the retreat when it happens. Major fuel shortage expected in Australia in several days, about 100M pts on the way with about 20M erstaz two days out. I lost track of the fuel consumption there for a three or four weeks, I guess HI and Sydneys busy harbor were really sucking it down.

Im going to check again, but I don't see a way to look at Bases by "area" or nationality. That would help with watching the fuel and supply thing.

May 1st 1942
We at Zulu HQ believe we have the fuel thing under control. With the arrival of the RAF recon groups we are supprised to learn we are facing far less at Rangoon than was previously thought. Division strength units are most likely moving through Siam to Burma from Malaya. I may have a little more time than I thought. China is under duress but we are consolidating. In two days four CVTFs will merge in SoPac. I smell a raid. US Bomber HQ should be at Cairnes in two days bringing B17 group stregth to 75+. P39s had to be commited in New Guinea. They suffer alot of damage but we only lose two and one gets a Zero. Moon is at 100% and the weather is clear and I think I forgot to Night CAP, pardon the expression, and the turn is away. fingers crossed he dose'nt do to much to the service area. Another ENG is being flown in however to help with the damaged AC at the field.

Whats your pilot exp in those P39s at PM?  How many fighters to you have in the PM area.  It might pay off to pull them all together and set a massive fighter ambush.

Alfred, How right you are ...

I should hope so.[:)]

Otherwise I would be feeding you with erroneous commentary which would lead you astray. In my book, that is one of the most cardinal sins which are regularly committed on the forum.[;)]

Just remember it isn't my role to play the game for you. Instead it is to guide you to think for yourself within the parameters of the game.

Alfred: As a complete newb,I can state with absolute confidence, with the game so detailed that your contributions greatly enhance the game play as well as my personal enjoyment of it.

Joe Guess: My P40s are all trained (54-56) with one group reaching rookie (63) which is operating on low altitude CAP at Port Morseby. I have decided to fight for this base as it was historicaly and as I feel I may have a chance to both slow him there and bleed him as well. May 2nd saw my best day of the airwar losing 7 ac to his 27. Most were Oscars and Zeros. One air battle was an escorted raid over Port Morseby, the other an Oscar sweep over Mandalay.

I am presently (over cocktails of course) debating the best way to hit back a little in SoPac, I have four CVs and several surface groups in theater, refitted, fueled and armed. I feel a need to replicate some sort of action similar to Halseys raid in CenPac to adhere to Adm Kings directives to Adm Nimitz.

Sumatra and Java are on borrowed time. Bataan is being starved, there are 12 Jap units outside the hex. Leyte has fallen and Cebu is under invasion.

China is stabalizing, but I cannot over emphasize how my poor ground play after the very successful pincer attacks led to the annilation of so many Chinese. The reserves are thin and days away from the action. More like weeks.

Burma will be the next battle ground. The PP situation is my biggest concern when the attack begins in earnest. I need at least 1600 or so and currently have 300 odd pts. After Alfred chimed in on the SitRep there (one more bloody mary) I am trying to find the best way for me to use the intell without ordering a general retreat. I promised Terry I would play it as a simulation over a game and I am happy with that. It is difficult not to think about winning at all costs.

May 2nd
I lose a tanker to an IJN sub in mid Pacific. Its the first time I do not use my shipping lanes and let the digital admiral plot the course.
staging planes for raids.
Port Morseby hit hard during a night raid. 60%+ damage (runway) from twenty odd Bettys at night. additional engineers arrive by air to help with the damage. Wildcats return from the mainland with shiny new Wildcats.
recon at Rangoon reveals under a thousand Japs in the city with some AFVs missing from Pegu. A Brittish Brigade will try a deliberate assault for some up close info.

another punishing raid on Pt Morseby. otherwise quiet. Three Tfs leave Ceylon for Burma, looking for a chance to raid Moulmein, Pegu and Rangoon.
Four US TFs join in the waters by Suva. one more raider Bn should make Ndeni at nightfall. a base force is a couple of days out. an AV is on the way and I expect seaplanes to be operational there in two days closing holes in my search patterns. Luganville is close to level 3 AF and 3 port. AA and additional fighters are poised to move there behind the carriers. The KB has been missing for so long I have no idea where it is. The counter attack at Rangoon was a disaster as my "cruit" recon fighter missed an entire reinforced division in the city. Dont trust (30+) green recon guys.

Some of his carriers are due for updates in May and June of 42.  That sucks for Rangoon.  Keep the faith brother.

Turn 151 away
IJA attacks at Rangoon and are repulsed but with heavy allied casulties. Combat withdrawl ordered north up the road. Wellington daylight raid ordered over Pegu s fields. Three TFs in Bay of Bengal closing for close support.

Batavia in red. Palembang 2- forts 40% 485AV

TKTF trying to sneak into Soerabaja for desperately needed fuel south.

4-CVTFs move north from Suva, this time with AOs to support Ndeni and Luganville. possible raid? I really need to shut Rabaul down for 72 hours to repair PM and give the VII bomber command a chance to stage in theater.

Port Morseby: hit again hard. 44% runway damage 77% service damage. Wildcats, P39s, and P40s scoring some kills but getting roughed up to.

VII Bomber command at Cairnes with 57 B17Es more Sqds at Sydney training.

off to work...

turn 152 away
PI: Cebu falls. garrison surrenders. IJA moves to the Bataan penisula and bombards. Time to write wills. All of the main islands and 99% of the outlaying isles are controlled by Empire of Japan.

DEI: Batavia under assault. IJA units remain outside of Palembang. The small TKTF is 80nm from Soerabaja, trying to sneak one last load of fuel. I cound'ent resist.

Rangoon: Malayan Army HQ orders a general retreat to the north. We are watching closely. BFs and engineers with some ground forces started out two days ago. Only Bn strength units are in blocking positions. The deliberate assault yesterday may have mussed our chances of an orderly retreat. I need PPs bad. IV corp still undermanned and Eastern Army units still days away.

SoPac: CVTFs are closing on Ndeni and should be there by morning. If we are undetected at that point we will raid. Getting tense.

Australia" VII Bomber command cost me 240+ PPs to assemble in Cairnes; I should have saved them for Burma. If the raids go as hoped ( I will need to stage B17s quickly.

Remind me,[:)] why exactly you had to spend PPs to get the VII Bomber Command to Cairns.

I had the B17s under RAF command since I took the D models out of the PI. The Es were under an AF HQ, I can't recall which so I combined them under IV Bomber Command which was in theater and could deploy in range (the hex) of the fortresses. Bonehead move?
