Where to buy the game securely?

Hi there,

I was just about to get this game but the Matrix checkout area is not secure. The FAQ section says something about a frame and how it is actually secure but it seems a bit dodgy since any other online store I have used have had the whole payment area as a secure site.

Is there anywhere else to buy this game that will use a secure method?

NWS store also carries it according to their store page, as has been discussed previously. Don't know if there is any difference in store security (or which way that goes if there is, but I haven't had any trouble from Matrix FWIW).

If you are really worried about online security, then don't use your standard credit card or bank debit card - obtain a pre-pay credit card, top it up with the desired amount and use it for the purchase, most won't allow you to exceed the stored 'cash value' and nothing links directly back to 'you' and your financial details. At worst you should only lose the value on the card, but your 'life' should be secure. If you are concerned that it may have been compromised you can 'throw it away' empty and get another.

Disclaimer - I don't Know that the above will work, but you might want to do some reading to see if it would suit you.

Just common sense - your bank details are 'permanent', and linked directly to 'you' - these can be abused by "Nigerian Princes" if you are foolish enough to give them to all and sundry on request. OTOH a pre-pay card is essentially 'cash' - you add your money to it at your bank/or using your bank details (so it is still traceable, if you have the right authority/access - not a criminal's panacea), but after that it is a piece of plastic worth 'some money' and not your identity and entire funds.

It is also good for student's being funded by parents - the card can't be abused like a 'normal' credit card can be - the expenditure is only supported if there are funds on the card, so huge debts 'hidden' on expensive credit cards aren't so much of a problem*. My daughter is a few years away from needing anything like this, but I keep my eyes open for interesting/useful tips from other parents. *I was horrified by the credit card balances of some of my fellow students when I was at University... some were 'mortgage-like'...

Yeah some sort of pre-pay thing may be the way to go. Just a shame that Matrix won't do a proper full page secure transaction system.

I have bought a number of games from Matrix over the last 7 or 8 years or so and never had a problem.

If you are concerned, the prepay credit card mentioned above is the way to go.

As a side note i've bought titles at Matrix and NWS without issue for years. If your going for disk versions, NWS is usually cheaper.

Erik mate, if you ever read this. Your payment method is probably secure but given that every other site that I have bought something on has the padlock symbol displayed when in the payment area just serves to ease the mind. I suggest that you set up the payment area so that it pops up into another window where all the elements are secure (or at least give the option to do so) I'm sure many people will be put off buying a game from Matrix because of this. I definitely appreciate what you guys do and offer the games without restrictive DRM like Battlefront with the Combat Mission games (who I wont purchase from because of it). But this whole misison to purchase the game has sullied my buying experience on your site. Hopefully in the future you can offer a solution that would ease myself's and other's minds when it comes to hand out details over the internet.

With iDeal this happens immediately. Matrix redirects you to your bank (you chose it in the form), and the payment form is pre-filled. But you use the security procedure of your bank's web site: a challenge response using a hardware token. After the payment is processed the bank redirects you to the Matrix website, where the deal is finished. So it is as fast as using a credit card, but you never give that number.

In the Netherlands the majority of internet purchases are processed this way.
iDeal tries to market this method in other countries, but so far it is limited to the Netherlands.

Matrix' payment processor evidently distinguishes by country what methods are available (and in local currency).
I regarded that as a sign of high quality.

Yeah that is definitely different from what I got in New Zealand. They gave me a local bank account number for a bank here called Rabo Plus that I had to transfer the money to. Just have to wait a few days for the purchase to clear.
