Where EXACTLY is the Aussie 'Line of Death?' Translation: Where does the reinforcement line run?

You can take Perth without crossing the LoD. That is confirmed.

Basically, you could conceivably: 1) Pursue and retreat this stack a 3rd time; 2) take Perth; and/or 3) take NE Oz down to Brisbane or so.

One option might be to try to isolate and destroy this stack. THAT would hurt. In fact, that may be more decisive than any of the 3 options above. Of course, the fun is you could destroy this stack and then still go for Perth and/or NE Oz. Why? Strategically speaking if you smack these units and take more ground in Oz, particularly if it's Perth, you can negate the Darwin - Timor axis of attack indefinitely, which protects the DEI for a long time.

The Japanese Sub Arm has had excellent success in preying on Allied shipping to this point of the war. The area around Ceylon--Karachi has been quite good, the Hawaiian Area: EXCELLENT, and now the area around New Zealand. As long as the Subs keep getting moved along to differing areas they do pretty well. Three SS (including 1 Ro-) are Aces with five or more sinkings. Another half dozen are at four and only a few SS have been sunk. Have been lucky to get a number of boats home that were severely damaged but lived to fight another day. Here are the numbers:

YES: We are still playing! I've been so busy working on the Perfect War Mod and mulling over some additions to an RA variant that something had to give in my time. The AAR became that something.

Bill has had to leave the Campaign due life issues and Soli Invictus has graciously agreed to jump in and play. Am currently expecting a last turn from Bill, will upgrade to current Beta version, and then send the turn to SI so he can get up and running. Bill has been great in setting up a complete handoff. Complements to my fine opponent who has given me FITS!

Since it will take SI some time to get his first turn to me, I will update the game and fill everyone in on happenings. As it is, this could not have worked out much better. SI was an avid reader of the AAR and since I haven't done an update in 6+ weeks of game time he is not up to speed with the current situation. He has a summary but no recent intelligence regarding operational activities and/or planning.

As I worked on Perfect War this AAR has been relegated pretty far down the list of things to do. My Father was also a lot of that. Had to go over and spend several mornings a week with him as he slowly went downhill at Good Samaritan in Loveland, CO. Yesterday he passed and this is a GOOD thing. Certainly is different when one has a long time to prepare for the loss of a person. I've gotten quite nice comments and thoughts from a number of my playing partners, former and current opponents, and my fellow Mod Designers. Always helps to have a solid group of people to depend upon. THANKS!

Once the funeral is over next week I fully intend to get this AAR caught up and go back to regular daily entries. Soli Invictus has picked up the Game from Bill. I am happy for both. I know Bill will be able to devote more time to RL and Soli will prove a stout challenge.Though he is in Europe, we've managed to play 1-2 turns a day and this is quite pleasant.

Just an aside with the Game. Just got the August 6, 1942 turn done and finally got a mass surrender at Noumea. The Japanese captured 32,672 PoW! In terms of losses to the USA: 969 Squads, 2361 Non-Combat Squads, 122 Engineer Squads, 855 Guns, and 888 Vehicles. The Americans lose 18 Units: 7th--9th Marine Regiments, 6th Marine Defense Bn, the entire 41st Inf Div, 27th--A ID, 5 Base Forces, 3 Engineer units, and several Artillery units. How 'bout that? BANZAI! Solid work and a great victory for August 1942.

Life is finally settling down in the Cochran House. My Father passed 3 weeks ago after dealing with 4 strokes over the last 6 years. He was ready and it has taken some time to get things sorted out since then.

This game continues to roll on with Soli (Roland) as my opponent now. I just sent the 9-11-42 turn off to Europe and I plan to begin the catch-up phase of the AAR so then we can go back to regular Postings.

Major Units Lost: CVEs Taiyo, Unyo, and Hosho, BB Ise, 3 CA (2 Old Furutakas), 6 Old CL, 26 DD (12 are newer ships), and 5 SS

Allies 559 for a total of 4,502 in VP

Major Units Lost: CVs Enterprise, Yorktown, HMS Illustrious (Not sure if she SANK), 3 BB: Colorado, Maryland, and Tennessee, 10 CA, 5 CL, 55 DD, and 29 SS.

Aircraft losses have been much more difficult to accept. RA 3.0 lowers Japanese IJN Pilot Experience and it has been reflected in all phases of the game. Look at the number of planes destroyed on the ground! The vast majority there are from the Hawaiian Adventure.

Thank You. I didn't mention it very much here on the Forum. I've received quite an education in preparing for one's end and planning for it. Dad was ready and wanted to go. Funny how the body follows the mind. Appreciate the thought.

Am working on a region-by-region review of the game to get everything current. Unfortunately the weekend is almost impossible for me to write entires. Will get it out and done on Monday so everyone is ready and I can detail my insidious plans for Soli Invictus (Roland!)!
