Ship withdrawal

Post by Bill Durrant »

Can't find the answer to this. Using latest beta patch.

I have CL Emerald needing to withdraw in 3 days. She is in port, disbanded at Calcutta but there is no withdraw button. The manual says it must be at a 'national home base' but does not describe a 'national home base'. CL Emerald was assigned to SEAsia so I tried reassigning her to India but still no button appears.

Any ideas?

You can withdraw ships from some of the national home bases and any offmap port. You can withdraw a ship 30 days prior to the withdrawal date. and later. If you do not withdraw by the withdrawal date, the daily political point penalties start.

On map withdrawal locations are:
San Francisco
Vancouver
Karachi
Sydney
Wellington

Any ship of any allied nationality may withdraw from any of these ports. A ship may be withdrawn in a damaged state. Repairs will be completed offmap and the repair time will delay the return of the ship. That is, a ship that is due to return in 10 months but with damage that would take 2 months to repair will return fully repaired in 12 months.

When a ship scheduled for withdrawal is in a valid withdrawal port and is within 30 days of withdrawal (or later), a button will appear to accomplish withdrawal.

- Any level 7 or larger port on the US or Canadian West Coast.
- Any level 7 or larger Indian port E of Ceylon (including Ceylon).
- Any level 7 or larger port in SE Australia, plus Perth.
- Any level 7 or larger port in New Zealand.
- No ship can be withdrawn from an on-map port where the enemy has air superiority.
- For on-map withdraw, a ship's total damage may not exceed 99 and no individual damage type (system, floatation, engine) may exceed 50.

^this info may be out of date by this point in the game, but should still be useful.

I have withdrawn S boats up to 124 days before the time limit kicks in.  I'm always watching that.  It seems that if I don't, I ALWAYS have something a brazillion miles away when the time comes [:@]

Not 100% accurate to say you can withdraw a damaged ship. It depends on the extent of the damage.

For a ship with damage to be withdrawn it needs to meet two conditions:

(a) no single area is damaged more than 49 points

(b) the aggregate damage from all areas must not exceed 99 points

The ship must also be in readiness state. You can't withdraw it whilst it is off line undertaking repairs.

I've withdrawn ships like a year before their date as well. There is the bit about the 49%/99% damage requirements for on map withdrawal in there as well but the first bit about damage/withdrawal kinda confuses thing. I keep meaning to update my little text file of withdrawal info but somehow I never get around to it heh. Procrastination is my bane.

I think ships over that 49%/99% threshold may withdraw offmap (capetown ect ect) but I'm not sure on that. Anyone know for sure?

As far as I know, all ships can be withdrawn in off-map area, regardless of damage. Also WAD since they are then, well..off-map. [8D] They can sink before getting there though, so have to balance the risk with benefit.

Damaged ships can indeed withdraw when off map. They can not withdraw on map as that could be used as a cheat to save a ship that might otherwise be lost (and the victory points).
