Battle reports

Post by Thorgrim »

As per PC's request :)

Played small/tiny? vet teams with Barba-Papa (Namenlos) in Classic. I got a Sagitta and a Badger, he got a F_RipperII (custom, SRM boat) and a Pharaoh. I started out underweight, but with better position. Only after the 2nd CLG hit to the RL did I remember to switch my shield on, DOH! Both my titans fell due to ripped off legs, and the dice just weren't helping. The weight advantage proved important, as the Pharaoh had both side torsos hanging by a thread.
Anyways, it was great to play online again.

(I did give Namenlos the winner's right to brag, but he hasn't posted anything yet)

A very nice guy, nd a good player.
We're trying to set up a tourney team battle for the next days. I'm digging up my old tourney teams :)

Having come fresh off his defeat of young Thorgrim 'the Iceman' Guide-Writer, Barpa-Papa decided he'd descend into the depths to deal with the Lobsteve. A plot that didn't quite come off, as determined by the writer of this post.

Namenlos (Aka Barba-Papa)
VS.
Lobsteve

Barba set us with tiny teams. He drew a Hunchback (2 MLs and an AC20) and a Thor (PG ML and AC7) (the thor being of his own design I believe.) I wound up with a Mirage (3 GM3s and a LRM 9) and a F_Sniper (2 PGs) a B-P design.

We started out on the classic terrain in oposite corners, the usual initial seconds stuff. i was facing a brace of mountains to begin with, and so with my long range weapons all around I figured getting up high enough to see the oposition was the priority. There weren't any trees up on these peaks, but that's alright, I can't have everything. So up I went. And was rewarded soonafter with the sight of the wee hunchback rolling along through the mountains that divided the map. I knocked him down with my first volley of PGs and got in some other quality shots before the Hunchback went into hiding and I got a couple more shots at the Thor.

At this point there was a large gap of boredom while Barba closed with me. Comfortable atop my mountain I wasn't going anywhere. Too good a view.

When the Thor reappeared I got a couple good scans of him and settled in to try and knock him off before he could get too close and negate my range advantage. It was at this point that he made a couple inexperienced mistakes. (Sorry B. It's true.) First off, he didn't close the distance, but decided to opt for the cover of the trees about 4 hexes from me. Well that's fine, he gets a bit of a cover advantage there. But it wasn't enough to negate my range advantage. Especially when i set the trees on fire. Also, he didn't crouch in the trees to get that extra bonus in cover and to-hit, which could have possibly turned the tide. At any rate he had to come forwards with the trees on fire (Which did do intentionally) and I quickly was able to knock out his LT (and AC20) and then rip off his RL to but the Hunchback out of commission.

This left us with a 2-1 situation as I lined up on his Thor. The Thor ran into some more woods (which I then -accidentally- set on fire), got knocked down, overheated, shut down and died.

Game over.

It was a fun match....for me. I sensed that Barba was getting a little frustrated near the end. Much as I feel when I'm getting my head handed to Hetzer on a plate.

Oh bother, I may be on a roll.

Hetzer on Beguiller (2 PGs, 2 NBs, 1 PL and 3 SLs)
VS.
Lobsteve on Crater Maker (3 LRM9s, 2 LRM6s, 2 SRM8s)

And here we find ourselves, -again-, in Hetzer's house, Hell. I don't like Hell. It's too hot. I have a phobia. PHOBIA!

To start off I found myself in the hills. With a long-range titan (with those 2 srms on my legs in case someone wants to tickle the goose...i don't know what that means) I'm looking for a hill with some cover. Unfortunately I can't get to one before Hetzer saunters out from behind his own pile of hills. When the shots begin to fly it's a matter of my LRMs taking him down before he can sneak in close and finish me off with called shots. I put my shield up early on, but a piddly Shield1 hardly counts in situations like these and it was down most of the time. I didn't even bother to recharge it. Not worth the effort. Hetzer got in several NB shots, taking my jock to 50% health and knocking him all Dizzy. Lucky me though, my LRMs kept going to his head (maybe Advil would help, but I hear that's over-rated) and they finally killed him. End of story.

young Titan Fodder and I smacked each other around pretty good yesterday.

This was a tough battle.

When we first made contact I was standing in the woods and TF decided the thing to do would be to light them up. The prevailing wind would puch them around the map chewing us up at every point.

Early on I had a slight advantage of GM3s over his single ranged weapon, a PG. However we both had some nice close in stuff, a Tesla for him, couple BRGs for me that I couldn't get off because of his -insane- ECM (I only had a 4% chance to get a scan) so we closed, the forrest fire following me. When we were a hex apart we both decide to DfA at the same time. I started my jump first which left me on the bottom of the pile when it came down to it and TF squashed me and we both ended up on the ground. He beat me up by half a second (darned reaction) and we had some nice pummeling, he having the better of it, knocking me down twice to my knocking him down once. I finally got lucky though and ripped one of his legs off. It then took me another fall courtesy of the Tesla before I killed his heat reg and that was that.
