If a non-core unit participates in two battles in a row, it will keep its medals/awards/abilities and any increases in unit quality, but if there's some time in between, the unit will lose all of it again.

Yes, core units must be, well, core units. They are the core of your force. Which means they should be fighting every battle. If they don't the computer won't track them.

That is by design. It's assumed that if there's a gap between battles that they are different support units. It would be great to track all support units even when they skip battles in a future release though.

Bit sad that the last post in this thread was by a spammer, but it's time to get things back on the road. I've found the notepad so I can update the AAR, although as I have a cold paired with a fever I don't really feel like typing a detailed AAR at this point, hopefully I'll feel better later this week so I can update the AAR.

Nice. Interesting reads. I just read through the whole thread as I am interested in starting up my own random campaign. I am assuming you are playing without the update? Or were you able to continue after installing? Also, I noticed a couple times that you cooley mention being able to spot enemy units in the setup phase. I started a random campaign and noticed this in the very first battle. My units could spot no less than 6 or 7 enemy tanks. I was even to spot more by moving my units tondifferent spots in my setup zone. Seeing you played a boat load of battles how often are you seeng this? It sort of bothers me a little. I like the difficulty of not knowing what's coming at me. How about the air support? Anything new on that?

IF you installed the update you will probably need to start over and I think you wanted to anyway.

You can view xmls in MS Internet Explorer but you can't change and save them from my experience. I use a free program named Notepad ++. There is an option to color code things and that makes it easier to see if your changes are proper.

For the 7th PZ Div long campaign I first go to the Data\Random Campaigns folder. I open the 7th Panzer Div 1941-44 Long.xml. I see that the first battle file that is used is the German Summer 41 (First) - 7th Pzr Div. I then go to the Data\Battles folder and open that xml. At the bottom it shows the Russian setup. The preset determines what force mix you will face. It is Soviet vs 7th Panzer Defend. I go to the Data\Presets folder and open that file. It shows on the right, the numbers that will be used as a percent of the points total for each category. In this case it is 45 infantry, 5 transport, 10 artillery, 5 air, 15 gun, 20 armour.

You may change those numbers to whatever you feel will give you a better mix as long as the total equals 100. Before you save these changes, you should have a backup copy of this original file in case you want to go back. You could also make a JSGME mod to install this file while you generate the campaign.

Now it gets tedious. You have to check every one of the close to 40 xmls in the Random Campaign xml to see which battle file is used and check which preset is used then change these preset files as well. This is where a JSGME mod would help and keep your originals safe. I would make a backup of the whole folder just in case.

Edit to add, copy and paste works in Notepad ++ so at least if you want the same force mix for every battle you can paste the first one into the others after deleting the original text.
