As US on campaign had to send 1 of the carriers back pretty early. Long Island arrived at the same time so I thought I'd transfer the wildcats over to her. Noticed a few days later that the squadron sent to the LI upgraded to F4F-4s, but their number went from 16 to 4.

So I transfered the squadron to the Lexington with the intent of probably just withdrawing the squadron.

Check the Lex a couple days later and the squadron went back to 16 fighters, and she also now has 56 pilots!!!

Should I just let the fighter wings go back with the ship, otherwise seems some odd things are happening.

Good advice. I have formed a new cruise ship line, of which Long Island is the flagship. I call it "Noumea-Pearl Harbor Round Trip South Seas Sightseeing Excursions." Altamaha and Copahee are the other luxury liners in the venture.

I send them back because their VP value is enough sometimes to push my likelihood of ship release back to "moderate" from "low" and sometimes CINCPAC will give me something I can use instead of these saltine cracker boxes.

And where are LI planes?

Post by ftwarrior »

Has anyone else noticed what I observed at least once.....that LI appears in-theater without any planes onboard? Does this strike anyone else as odd? I know I'm a newbie, but to send even a light carrier to a hot theater without any planes onboard seems stupid.

Actually, there are three CVEs that arrive in-theater without airgroups, the Long Island, the Altamaha, and the Copahee. Many players transfer marine air squadrons onto them, many players use them as aircraft transports, and many have no use for them and just send them back to Pearl every time they show up.

IRL they had no indigenous air groups and were used primarily in the transport function. Personally, I prefer to keep sending them back to Pearl in hope that their VP value will raise my chances of getting something I really can use.

For the Allies, it's got to be in Noumea (not in a docked TF). Cllick on the ship to open its information screen, and the option to return it to Pearl Harbor is at the bottom left center. Japanese ships go back to Tokyo from Truk the same way.

In reality the LI arrived with the part of MAG-23 slated for Henderson. She catapulted the A/C off the deck (to short to launch normally) to land at Henderson.

naw keep her around. She makes a good floating target when in company with a CVE that actually has an integral air group. If i could, i'd even paint a big bullseye on her to aid the enemy bombers in choosing her instead of a more valuable flight deck :)

As I said. She had no indigenous air group and was used as a transport.
