Version Help

Post by ra2508 »

Hi all,

I've recently purchased this game and installed the latest official patch from the website. Now I've been reading through the forums and stumbled on articles describing bugs such as search arcs not working etc. I'm currently running the latest official (1.0.4.1106i) patch but I see other patches with version numbers up to 1108 etc. These being described as unofficial updates. My question is what version should I be running to ensure I get the best from this game, bearing in mind I will eventually like to have a go at playing a PBEM game. So should I just stick with what I have for now while I'm learning the game or should I be using a more recent unofficial patch.

Cheers

You should use latest beta.
It is very stable and fix so many bugs and give so many new enhancements that beta patch in my opinion is "must have".

Seconded. Use the last Beta patch.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Now where exactly should I be looking to find these updates. I have so far managed to find and download a file called AEupdate1108q6, is this the one you are both refering to?

Yes, attachment in first post here: tm.asp?m=2859420

michaelm has even later Beta for test purposes in his post number 1038 in that thread, but that is bit "experimental beta", 1108q9b is the latest "official beta" and I suggest you use it. You can safely upgrade whenever new version comes out with on-going games.

Thanks Sardaukar, I'd looked at that page without realising that attachment link at the bottom was for the latest update. Have now downloaded it and will install it and then have another go playing the GC campaign against the AI - see if I notice anything different.

Thanks again

Compared to 06i, there has been LOADS of improvements and bug fixes. You should read those patch notes in above thread. [8D]

Remember that the beta installs to its own directory and uses its own shortcut. You need to install the switches you use to the new shortcut or copy the beta directory to the main.

Well I've certainly noticed quite a few subtle differences already, now I have to figure out what some of them are and how they work. I initially thought the black search arcs was a bug and was beginning to wish I hadn't applied the patch until I discovered it was a feature - lol

Anyway I'm going to replay the GC scenario against the AI using this patch as I only just realised my last game was played with FOW turned off.

Sardaukar-Some advice, please about using "latest: beta patches. In my current game(v1.806) I'm at 6/1/43.

I believe I read somewhere in this forum-a way long time ago-that installing a new beta patch wipes out accumulated ships sunk(as well as some other things). In my current game as Allies, I have sunk 12 enemy CVs-CVLs. I don't want to give them up.

Comments, please. Thanks. Hugh Browne

IF that was ever a problem - which I can't recollect or find anywhere - it certainly isn't present now.
Do yourself a favour and get on the beta.[;)]
