Nell and Betty bombloads

Post by Yaab »

I see several combat reports like the one below:

Aircraft Attacking:
27 x G4M1 Betty bombing from 23000 feet
Airfield Attack: 2 x 250 kg GP Bomb, 4 x 60 kg GP Bomb
27 x G3M2 Nell bombing from 23000 feet
Airfield Attack: 2 x 250 kg GP Bomb, 4 x 60 kg GP Bomb

I went to the Database, Editor and Tracker, but everywhere the reduced bombload for these two planes is 2 x 250 kg GP bomb. How come they sport additional 4 x 60 kg GP bombs? Packing six bombs instead of just two makes them actually quite potent if more bombs = more chances to hit.

Yeah, but a 60kg bomb really does nothing but chip the paint off. Just assists the swabbies, that's all.

Except for AF attacks ... 60kg bombs work just fine then and the addtional probability to hit is noticeable.

PaxMondo, sounds like the Japanese have their own runway-supressor. I reckon those four 60 kg GP bombs were fitted externally.

Is there any other Japanese/Allied aircraft carrying bonus ordnance, unaccounted for in Editor/Database/Tracker, which I should be aware of?

Are you using those torpedo bombers for ground support?

I hate to, but in the early expansion portion of the game I will throw the kitchen sink if I have to. Against unCAP'd bases where I do not want the forts levels increased, yes, I will use them.

It a trade off, lose a veteran pilot or lose some amount of HI having to fund replacements for LCU's. I think each player has their balance point.

It seems to be hardcoded alternative for torpedo. I tried to change plane payload, but it did not changed number of bombs. After setting alternative weapon for torpedo, game actually hang, so I see no way of changing that.

So, Nell and Betty:

1. Naval attack: 1 torpedo
2. Naval attack II: 2 x 250 kg SAP, 4 x 60 kg GP (not sure about it; can someone confirm?)
3. Ground attack: 2 x 250 kg GP, 4 x 60 kg GP
4. Port attack: 2 x 250 kg SAP, 4 x 60 kg GP

So, as I commented in Sardaukar's newbie AAR, these planes are actually quite versatile.

I've been known to use G5N Shinzan (Liz) for attacking troops before in CHS games. Of course the bonus there is that by the time 1944 rolls around, they'll all be at 95+ XP. [;)]

They can also, on occasion, carry 800 kg bombs on port attack
