Bear in mind that I am a fan of both Star Wars and Star Trek, so I'm playing both ends against the middle for some laughs. [;)]

If you really want things to get ugly we could always compare the ways in which TOS is superior to TNG... or how the first 3 Star Wars movies were vastly better than the prequels (and yes probably best not to get me started on that one). [:D]

I think ole George Lucas is getting soft and cute in his old age.
I do not think he is capable of producing a movie as dark as the Empire Strikes Back. Technically, Revenge of the Sith should be darker BUT its tone was not the same as the Empire Strikes Back!

I bought the Star Wars boxset on Blu-Ray the other week.

I'm slowly working my way through them and got to Episode IV and stopped, i heard Lucas has 'improved' them yet again and i'm affraid to see what he's messed with this time around. [8|]

I dont mind touching up the special effects with modern CGI so much but its when he edits scenes like the cantina or editing out original actors for the modern replacements that i start getting annoyed.

Guess i'm just a purest!

I'd honestly be more likely to buy a blue ray boxed set if I could get the untouched movies as they originally released.

The vast majority of people I talk to, both online and offline, want bluray versions of the original theatrical releases.

It's clear to me that Lucas is living in a bubble. The people around him are probably constantly reassuring him that the fans want more effects, more special editions, more hype. They're too scared to tell him the truth.

Unless he's just waiting for the revenue to dry up. Then he'll give us what we want and make a packet. It's for this reason I'm not buying any of the 'enhanced' versions.

I wonder if there are any TV channels that might screen an HD version of the originals? I'd assume if they did, it'd be an internet sensation.

Thankfully i have the 'original' versions on both VHS and DVD, i even prefer the old Dolby 2.0 sound.

I do feel quite hurt about the changes, I cannot enjoy the films that I remember, my only choice is to watch these tinkered versions that look more dated than the originals.
I know it's nerd rage but it's how I feel, I wont lie.

Wasn't the Indy shot "hell no I am not fighting a swordmaster, I got a gun" part of the joke? That would ruin the humor and make the comedic adventure film an action movie. What else would you edit? I mean come on, the explosions are WAY beyond the modern standard of film vandalism. A car blows up like an atombomb by a bullet shot today and a small crash will crush half the city. Indy must definetly be updated to that. We need to see arabian citys crumble!

There was a DVD version of the original a few years ago. I do not know if I have that version or not... if I do not, I am SURE they pulled it off of the market!

It was indeed, but then I am just an old man ranting that the version of SW I remember is sitting in two places: one on the editting room floor, and perhaps, just perhaps, in George Lucas' private screening room!
