How Many People are Playing WITE?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

How Many People are Playing WITE?

If it is not proprietary information, I am wondering how many copies of WITE have presently been sold?

And that would be that many fewer people playing. Really a lose-lose proposition, if you ask me...[:D]

All I can say is that WitE sales are comparable to WitP sales given the length of time WitE has been out. In fact, WitE's first year has slightly outsold WitP's first year. Also, at any given time there are several hundred active games going on using the Multiplayer server system (we have no way of knowing how many players play by standard email). I consider that a sizable community of players. It seems it doesn't take more than a day or two for a player to find a new opponent.

I love the Multiplayer Server system, even with the odd hicup. I doubt I will ever play any other way as long as it exists. Thankyou [:)]

Hello
It is great the sales of the game are robust as they well should be.
This is a classic already, and as you suggest Joel, if the activity in the forums and the Multiplayer system is a measure of the "silent majority" out there playing the game, there are a lot of players.
The effort that is being made to refine the game as real game play testing has occurred has been fabulous.
My first Eastern Front Game was AH's Stalingrad and WITE is truly the heir to the monster games (DNO especially) that proceeded it.

You guys should really go out and contact some more war games and mil history blogs. Offer them a free digital copy and some e-mail counseling in exchange for a review. That wouldn't cost much, and should happen before the graphics look outdated (a problem that afflicted games like Korsun Pocket).

That really surprises me. I have bought WITE one year ago, before purchasing WitpAE and, to be honest, even if i consider WitE a great game and a perfect heir to WIR, WtipAE cannot be compared for what concerns the overall emotions you get from the game.
So i really thought WItpAE was outselling, hands down, WITE...strange to hear the opposite

However i think these two games are a MUST have for all the turn-based games grognards out there...the only problem i see is that, once you get involved in a WitPAE Pbem match, there's no time left for nothing else (and i'm not only talking about other games!!)

I think it's the other way around. The war in the East attracts more people than the war in the Pacific. Though I prefer the latter because you have everything: land, air, naval, amphibious and logistics in really remote areas.

Why I think so: in the East you have wild, massive and epic fights since 22 june 1941... Non stop fight that is. In the Pacific the Japanese were more or less safe (behind thousands of miles of ocean) until the American hordes appeared (then they were doomed). Many quiet places that is, which can't be said in the Eastern Front: no place to hide in the first place [;)]

I'm surprised you are surprised. The subject in hand has always been the most popular one in wargaming. There's vastly more titles out there on it than on the pacific, and more coming out all the time. (We just got a new one from Matrix, in fact, although at a different scale.)

I think it's also a contributing factor that WITE is one of the more user-friendly games in a genre full of intimidating games. Granted, the comparison means WITE is still a sheer rock face, but when everything else is K2 in the Himalayas, the difference is still rather significant.

I'm playing and enjoying. Loved War in the Pacific as well, which got better and better with each patch.
I think a lot of people are still playing standard email games- i know I am, so my numbers are not tracked by the server.
