T07 Leningrad

The german gave up the frontal attack, and now he try to flanking the front on SW.
2 Div had been encircled, but nothing serious. This is my best, well defended front.

T07 Moscow

The german abandon the frontal assault and turned of the south way. The western front will e encircled next turn, and more than 14 div could be eliminated.
Bryansk seems to be undefended, and the only good news, I've cut the supply line of 6 mot/pz unit.

T07 Ukraine

Since the german had cross the Dnyepr, with strong forces, I've gave up the river, and start using the chessboard defense strategy.

However 6-8 unit will be encircled, but I will have enough time to evacuate Kharkow.

Good job on holding river until turn 7. Thats all you needed. I think you should have contested the bridge head a little more, but still good job in south. Now he have to keep PZs in south. If the german player gets over the river before turn 7 then its more then likely he can send them to AGC before turn 13 and you have trouble holding Moscow.

In the north again great job.

Center hes tring to pocket peeps.

With his slow advance in north this will greatly help you hang onto Moscow. You need to hold his Panzers in the Leningrad area until past turn 10-13. If he gets then to AGc before turn 10 you have a very hard time holding Moscow.

Moscow will only be held IF Leningrad is not cut off before turn 10 and you can hold river until turn 7 vs a good German.

There are only a handfull out there.

Breaking the Luga-line

Post by Callistrid »

T08 Leningrad

The Luga line had been break in a good position. I hope, my opponent will focus to force the frontal attack against Leningrad. Keeping the city I've sent 6 new strong division (2-4 CV value) from the center front, and more when the 9+ turn reinforcements will arrive.

Miracle on the center

Post by Callistrid »

T08 Moscow

The western front had a way to fall back from the Smolensk pocket. The 54th cavalry division save the day, ad the full front.
However, Moscow is well secured, and the germans gave up the frontal assault against Vyazma, but the Bryansk area low defended.

T08 Ukraine

The germans start attacking Kharkow, and Stalino, but nothing serious, and dangerous happen this turn (except 6 unit was encircled, and next turn eliminated).
Around Kharkow, I've concentrate my best troops, to keep the city, and counterattack, if needed.
After the turn 9, the industries will be fully evacuated.

Since I've sent 13 div to the center, I though, the front will collapse quickly, but Kamil won't cross the river on turn 3-5.

In the north again great job.

When I start the game, I decide to keep the city with all cost. Several div from the center front was sent there (the full Moscov starting forces 12+ div).
Leningrad won't be cut, because several reinforcements will be send there if needed. My goal is to keep the city at all cost, and don't allow entering the finns. I belive on T09, Kamil will broaden his lines on west Luga, and just on 12-13 could have chance to start cutting the city. But in that area several unit has 3 CV, and relative high morale (50+), so I have a great chance to keep the city.
I belive it was a mistake, when he attack on the west part.

Center hes tring to pocket peeps.

And around Moscow I've start building the fortification line, but we shall see what the german will do. And the good news, most of my units had escaped from the pocket. Cav divs with 22 movement are always usefull.

And the hedgehog position on difficult terrarian, plus fortification could stop the german. And it's not good when the german pz need to use deliberate attack.

T12 Moscow

The 4th panzer army succesfull break the soviet lines near Velkie Luki, and with the 2nd and 3re pz army succesfull encircle the full Moscow MD (with two full army/24 div)

However the german lines was low defended, and some soviet units had break it, but now, the german circles seems to be unbreakable.

Since the german concentrate 4 full pz army, I must thinking to start evacuate Moscow, because I don't have any troops to protect the city.

T12 South

On the south all arm factories was evacuated. Only 5 vehicle factory, and some heavy industries will be lost. However, the 1st Pz Army had encircle my troops around Kharkov, and my opponent has a good position to drive toward to Voronyezh.

The german has 5 turn until the 17the end turn, and I don't have any idea how could I stop him...

Never underestimate German mobility

If you are going to try and hold on to somewhere, make sure its not just a big clump of units, and you have lots of units behind the lines to slow him down.

You need to be placing units next to his motorised and panzer units every turn if at all possible, and look for opportunities to counter attack*

*But be really careful, you have to weigh up if its worth it

All German players take risks, and all make minor mistakes. You have to capitalise on them in '41 to have a chance of slowing them down.

I suspect that you are going to lose Rostov, Voronezh and Moscow, but there is still hope!

Rail as many units out of the hole around Bryansk to the Moscow approaches and try and hang in there.

I'd be really nervous of a drive North of Moscow towards the Finns.

Normally it would be a non-starter, but you are going to be so short of troops so try and watch out for that

Good Luck!

I have no idea how my opponent do, but on the south front the PZ1 army moves like they always have 30-50 MP.

Nice AAR.

Never played Russian side, but

Hold Leningrad as long as you can.
Defend Moscow at all costs.
Evac and withdraw in south.

Attack every turn of the blizzard, thats your only chance to kick some ass until 43. Every dead german is one who will not be attacking during summer of 42.

Hold Moscow

Post by Callistrid »

T13 Moscow

Hard battles around Moscow. The german try to flannking me with his 3 Pz Army, and the 1st Pz army start driveing north, after the battle of Kharkov.

Most of my fronts are weak (except Leningrad), so I hope, with the reinforcements I could defend the city.

I'll try to defend Tula, until the city could be evacuated. However, the city need 2 full turn to be defended.

There is 4 turn until the mud.

T13 South

I don't know, it was a good idea, but, I left the Stalino, and fall back to Rostov. Right now, the german only 4-5 mot/pz division have the area, so he will move slowly.

Only 11 heavy factory will be occupied by the german forces. Rostov must be defended, because, I don't have enough rail movement, to evacuate Rostov, and Tula in same time.

Good interesting match, I think you over-retreated a little last turn in south, but even so Rostov should resist, he is overrunnig its supply net Pelton (who uses HQ-b extensively) should know better than me but I think AGS is out of even HQ-build posibilities now...real danger is in center approaches

Would be useful knowing losses status after that last big pockets, but if they do not surpase 2.500.000 men it looks as you *only* need to avoid a big pocket west of moscow to be in a fair position for a winter campaign. To that end I would make a deeper stand , personally I feel that strong defensive stacks between Rzhev and Kaluga make better victims than defenders...

On T13,
2,4 million soviet lost,
10 heavy ind. lost, plus other 20 next turn (bryansk, stalino...). Leningrad secured, and the next threated arma factories Rostov, and Tula.

The german has 1400 active tank, and 1700 aircraft.

I wouldn't have retreated like that around the Donbas.

By T-13, and with the new RR Building rules, it is very tough to get fuel down there as the Germans. How far is he from his railhead?

If it's more than 20-ish hexes, I would have stayed.

The problem doing that is that he should get infantry to Rostov before Mud season, so that city is probably gone as well. That really helps the Germans.
