CR, have you thought about "hastening" the great Pago Pull Out by attacking the blighters and send the lot out in pine boxes?

Two important reasons not to attack:

1) The Allies are out of supply
2) Attacking would show Steve how weak the Allies are, possibly giving him the idea of reinforcing rather than pulling out.

Better to let sleeping dogs lie.

NoPac:  Allied fighters best Japanese fighters over Para.
 
CenPac:  Surprise IJ invasion of Ndeni - very small force undoubtedly just sniffing out the strength of the Allied garrison.
 
SoPac:  Something just happened at Pago Pago; it seemed to be a landing, but it can't be...I think.  An APD force arrived in the hex with the usual "reports" signalling an amphibious force was approaching and tangling with shoreguns.  The Allied CDs fired 500+ shots...managing two hits...and there were reports of about 30 squads destroyed.  Okay, so the Japanese seem to be rienforcing PP, but the bombardment fire at the end of the turn shows that Japan's AV has dropped from 500+ to about 450.  The drop wasn't due to the bombardment....and the Japanese roster on the islands is down one unit since yesterday.  So, to be honest, I don't know if this was a landing or if it was a very weird Dunkirk operation.  Most importantly, though, Japanese strength continues to decline.
 
SWPac:  The TFs moving from Sydney to Townsville don't report detection.  Nor is there any evidence of detection or enemy activity in eastern New Guinea.
 
DEI:  BB North Carolina seems to have slowed a bit, though damage remains steady or just slightly down.  At this rate, she won't exit the map for at least five more days.  Japanese bombers have savaged Padang's airfield.  An RAF base force is moving from Oosthaven to Billiton by air transport.  Steve continues to show a steady interest in Cocos Island via Glen flights.
 
Burma:  The Happy Stalemate at Magwe continues.

Although lack of supply makes CR's decision at Pago correct, I appreciate Princep's spirit. I think he went to the Halsey/US Grant school of warfare, where the rapier is discarded in favor of the big-a## hammer. [:D]

At Pago, I've bet a withdrawal could trigger an invasion support type action like that. You can be pretty sure there was no reinforcement due to AS reduction. Still, it is a bit odd.

right about where your lines cross forming one of the wonders of nature I have the Kido Butai. With the deep penetration (no pun) Chez made in SoPac I dont see how he could have ignored Port Morseby. I hope I regain (repair the af ) and see what 100 B17s do to Rabaul and use it as the hub on the wheel to the eventual eviction of the yellow menace. pardon the spelling....and punctuation.
ps question: Is Cooktown a PITA to keep supplied? stockpile?

On Pago pago, maybe the decreasing size of the IJA passed a ratio where CD will fire. Something like the Auto assualt on river crossings.

Zulu, I typically use Cooktown as a bomber base as the Allies and supply it with small freighters. Of course, this assumes that PM falls to the Japanese. Otherwise, why bother building it up if you can use Pt Moresby, Merauke and/or Milne Bay (or other bases in that area). I guess you could set up an air bridgehead to supply it, but why bother if the Japs aren't actively trying to counter seaborne supply.

Chez's game plan has been squirrley in my mind. I do not understand it at all. I really am anxious to know what he had in mind.

Pt Moresby is usually an Allied death trap if defended when the game follows its usual course. But, this has been anything but a "usual course" game. CR's Palembang Fortress gambit really opened my eyes to options for the Allies in the early game. Personally, I would have never, ever thought of it if Nemo had not done it earlier and then I watched as CR edged toward and finally embraced the concept wholeheartedly. Very fun to observe.

DEI:  North Carolina continues to make slow progress towards the map edge.  Damage levels have dropped a bit.  Big reinforcements coming into Oosthaven over the next few days.  Enemy air activity is confined to Padang.  Hornet will rejoin the main CV patrol TFs west of Cocos Island tomorrow.  Saratoga is still in Colombo's yards.  Lahat airfield - an interior base midway between Palembang, Oosthaven and Benkolen, goes to level three.
 
Burma:  The Happy Stalemate at Magwe continues.
 
NoPac:  The next Para re-supply mission will arrive there in about three or four days.  Cover to be provided by the CA Quincy TF.
 
CenPac:  Japan still landing a very weak detachment at Ndeni.  The U.S. Army battalion there will attack tomorrow.
 
SoPac: IJ AV at Pago Pago down to 450.  BB South Dakota will call at Tahiti in a couple of days to refuel en route to the DEI (to take Washington's place).
 
SWPac:  No signs of enemy interest in eastern New Guinea.

My computer shut down with a virus on Friday (maybe GreyJoy was doing some remote viewing of porn?....).  Back up an running now, though.
 
On a separate note, last night me and my boys sat down and watched We were Soldier Once.  My oldest son, who is now 17, read the book early this year.  I was interested in monitoring his percpetion of the movie.  It was obvious from his body language that he was enjoying the movie, but that changed dramatically during the second half of the flick.  I am glad to report that he was appalled by the last part of the movie.  He did not like how it radically departed from history, feeling it was unnecessary and somehow "slimy" to fail to tell it like it happened.  This is a good sign!  I already know that he enjoys Tora Tora Tora, so I am very confident now that he will NOT like TMTSNBN.  That means this young lad is ready for adulthood.
 
Now...back to the game....
