AAR - IJN Carrier Divs Spring 1942

Post by Knyvet »

Posting my IJN Spring '42 carrier division compositions (less DDs) for comment/feedback.

Primary Factors
- common speed (note that car divs 2 and 3 are designed to operate together)
- keeping around or under the 200+ rnd(200) carrier plane TF penalty

Thanks!

Your fleet is going to burn lot of fuel, which is not good thing... I'd disband half of cruisers and battleships and use them as surface combat force if needed. CLs are useless as carrier escorts anyway, because they have hardly any AA guns.

My composition would be 3 TFs:
Akagi, Shokakus, Soryu and Hiryu (Akagi won't slow down faster CVs because most of the escorts are slower than carriers)
Kaga, Ruyjo, Zuihos
Jynyo and Hosho (and later Hiyo and Ryoho)

Escorts: 1-2 battleships and about 2 CAs per TF. 6-10 DDs.
