War with own race

Post by ToastySandwich »

Playing as humans I recently encountered another human empire, later declared war on them. The moment I did, my 2 colonies revolted. When I checked their colony happiness level I believe they had -35, reason being I was at war with my own species. In which situation is it acceptable to be at war with your own race and not get such a negative hit to happiness ?

Never. As you are faced with many dangers in space your people hate you going to war against your own species.

Though I think a military goverment with a nationalistic people should be less interested in that fact, this is not implemented as of yet. Just give them less taxes close to the borders and keep some troops to quell uprisings.

Right, makes sense. Before that happened I had destroyed their starbase and had the planet blockaded, with no hate from my people as I wasn't officially at war...What if I had just sent in my transports without declaring war ?

That would get you a big reputation hit. Any offensive action without a declaration of war hits your Rep, except killing freighters during a blockade, I think.

You could justify it by saying that the people aren't mad about a Blockade because they know it's just a blockade. A war in this game invariably results in millions dead, a huge hit to the economy, and a large change in the way things are. You could understand Space Humans maybe thinking that you would be better off directing such efforts towards aliens, and not fellow people.

Thanks, that's good to know for my next games.

Good reasoning, that's how I would see things at least !
