I'm several months into my first go with the Ironman mod and it's kicking my butt pretty hard. Seems impossible to do much of anything other than run for the hills and pray. Curious to see if anyone has any comments on the mod ... is it sustainable? Playable over a long term? Or just simply impossible for the Allied player to turn the corner and make any progress... (I mean, I'm outnumbered in carriers something like 4:1)

[:D][:D] its designed to be harder than Scen 1 or 2 you do need to play it carefull and try to pick of Jap carriers when they are on their own

i've got to July 1942 and so far I'm holding the Japanese in Burma, have repulsed two invasions at Midway, only lost one British carrier and sunk four Japanese carriers. I'm ahead on aircraft losses by about 700 acraft and begining to see a build up of my forces. The trick seems to be to pick your fights ensuring that you have local superiority in carriers and don'y commit unless you know the KB isn'y near by. Accept that you are going to loose heavily in the begining so carry out a fighting retreat whilst building up your rear bases (which will eventually become your front line) and expect the unexpected.

Good luck and look after those carriers.

Concentration of force will win the day against the AI. The AI will split up its carriers so you need to pick off those small groups every now and then, hopefully within range of your LBA and not Japanese LBA. The AI also does continuous 1 rgt to 1 1/2 div invasions against the same base--all you need to do is put some CDs, decent ground forces and a Dauntless or Vengeance squadron there to grind it down (*cough* Perth *cough*).

Also, you need to pick a few places where you can set up CAP traps using surface units as bait--this will do wonders for building up your aces. Let him attack you over your bases so you get most of your pilots back if they get shot down.
