[spoiler] Shakturis and disaster options

Post by Mysterius »

A quick question : which option controls the appearance of the Shakturi?

Is it "Enable return of the Shakturi story events and victory conditions" or "Enable disasters and other events" ?

Because i just played a very long game without them appearing while having the second unticked...

It's the first. I confirmed with the release version of Legends that they do show up if the Shakturi storyline is turned on. Is it possible they showed up and were destroyed? If you are certain they did not show up and should have, please upload a save file and we'll investigate.

Isn't there a popup to warn you that a group of refugees just showed up in the galaxy? I remember it this way.
If yes, the answer is no i did not see that.

I (stupidly) deleted my save because i "finished" my game. I'm starting a new one with the exact same setup. I'll see if they show up or not this time.

I have yet to have a game with the Shakturis show up (as far as I know). And I've played several games from start till way past anyone ever has a chance of winning against me.
So Shakturis may get eliminated by the AI or other events before you even meet them? Also, is there a message about refugees showing up in the Galaxy? Know I've encountered refugee ships that my scouts find, but they are always some other alien race.

Not only is there a message about the refugees entering the galaxy, but also there is notification of the "Beacon" sent off into space. I'm not sure if that triggers for everyone, or just the empire that finds it.

I've never seen the AI handle the refugees. They are incredibly tough. I've also never seen them show up in a Legends game so far, either. Does the length of the game determine it? I usually set my victory conditions not to apply until 99 years.

I recruited a friend, and he met the Shakturi (and their world destroyer) every single game, until he turned them off. It may be a good idea to warn new players about this option...

I am playing in a 6x6 galaxy now, and am starting to get decent tech. I have yet to see signs of their entry even if the storyline is enabled and the guardians are present. I am not too worried though, and maybe the trigger is late on a 6x6 galaxy with 250 stars as it takes more time to grow really powerful considering the fewer colonies possible.

Edit: Clarity

I've been keeping Shakturi off in my first couple games, as I just want to learn the mechanics, etc. It can be traumatic when all of your hopes and dreams are shattered by the arrival of a super-powerful race!

I'll turn them on for my next game though, and see how it goes.

Does the story events play out differently depending on what race your playing?
As humans, the most I end up finding is a refugee data drove of system maps and technology, then nothing more happens as far as I can tell..
As one of the insect races, I seem to find random pieces of Shakturis technology that gives me further understanding of random techs.. but then before I can get to the Refugee Data trove, it gets destroyed by the nebula it spawned in.. which brings me to another question, will the story events keep going after that point? Even if I fail to get the data trove?
