Character Traits?

I'm wondering if there is a way to know what certain Character Traits do? For example, I have a scientist that is a Patriot, but is -5% in Energy research. He has no other beneficial stat. I was thinking about dismissing him, but am wondering if being a Patriot brings a bonus that I am not seeing. I know certain skills appear that show its from their trait, but does it take a awhile before those stats appear?

PS- Is the only way to to find out what a Troop Commanders stats are, is by actually having troop combat?

Hard to see his commanding skills under fire without beeing under fire... that means I don't know how bad your maneuvers are... maybe you use real ammo and casualties?

In case of your "Patriot", maybe it is positive if he is close to others of your kind, lowering the chance of them to get the foreign spy thing as a secondary trait?

My scientist with the 'Patriot' trait has a +8 in stopping foreign spys from stealing your technology.

Nevermind, I did not notice it was adding the values of the traits together and displaying them on the page.

I'm still not sure what certain traits mean, like Sober, or Patriot.  There is really no explanation of what they do that I can find

Are you not seeing the descriptions in the tooltips?

You should see descriptions for traits when you hover the mouse over the characters portrait or skills.
