Redownloading the Game

Had to buy a new laptop, how does one go about redownloading the game without having to buy it again?

The easist way is to burn the downloaded game to a CD with the serial number written on the CD so you have your own back-up.

Notwithstanding that somewhat flippant admonishment, I believe the tech types here can help you overcome the problem.

not flippant at all, i actually can use the old laptop, it just cant connect to the internet, had some indian gent on the phone for over an hour trying to fix it when i think he said you are screwed in urdu (I think that is the indian language), perhaps in the short term i will burn files to disk to transfer them.

next question does anyone know how to burn to a cd?

Insert CD/DVD in RW drive and the drag/copy/cut files onto it.
Burn.
Rinse.
Repeat.

But remember you are downloading the load module to CD/DVD, NOT the game files that you originally creating after installing from the load module.

Obviously yours probably has a different date but the size should be the same [:)]

Yes ... depends when (and who you bought under - plimus / digRiv.) New purchases have a link in your members area.

Wouldn't work anyway - you need to install the game from the exe. Remember to keep this file next time.

I typically pay the extra ten dollars for a digital+hard copy purchase.

That way I don't have to make my own back up, get a manufacturer's hard copy back-up in a case sized to fit in with all the other game cases on my bookshelf labeled with game artwork and as often as not includes a printed manual.

The extra ten bucks for the hard copy is really a great deal.

HB is just a lot more organized than I am since I never can find the original media for any of my games ("I know it's here in this room somewhere but so is everything else" [:D]). So for all my downloaded games I save the ten dollars and avoid accumulating more disks that I will misplace by 1) leaving the load module on the original computer, 2) backing it up to my backup drive, 3) backing it up to a thumb drive hanging from a hook on the bookcase.

Still havent been able to transfer the game to my new Laptop. Sent several emails to Matrix and no reply, tried burning the game to disks and transfered to new laptop and get fatal error 200 when try to start the game. checked and all of the files appear to have been transferred to the new laptop.

this is rather frustrating, really dont want to have to buy another copy. I thought that we were entitled to a couple of redownloads for just this situation.

Do you start the game directly from the exe or from a (copied from your other machine) shortcut? If latter, does the shortcut have any commands... Like screen resolution etc. that might be incompatible on your laptop?

I just double checked it and WitpAE doesnt seem to use registries at all. So just copying & pasting the whole folder should work. Using an old or used CD/RW or DVD/RW might end up with some files getting corrupted, so direct via-LAN, VLAN or FTP transfer might be your best bet, then using an USB memory stick or something...

I apparently copy and pasted the entire thing but no luck, copied it to a series of CDs to transfer. dont have ready access to a LAN, when I tried a USB the new laptop couldnt read the other laptop USB (used to transfer)

this is really getting annoying, how many times do I have to ask Matrix for some assistance. I can find no contact info on their website. Pretty bad technical support IMO.
