Can be modified the game main settings from a config file?

Hi! I want to modify the dimension of map out of 15 sectors maximum allowed by the game. How can i do it?

I believe that cannot be done. Only the sector sizes available by the slider
in the game start menu are available.
Shields are useless in "The Briar Patch"...
