RE: Nook Color vs Kindle DX
The Amazon Kindle is an e-book reader developed by Amazon.com subsidiary Lab126 which uses wireless connectivity to enable users to shop for, download, browse, and read e-books, newspapers, magazines, blogs, and other digital media. The Kindle hardware devices use an E Ink electronic paper display that shows up to 16 shades of gray, minimizes power use and simulates reading on paper.

Barnes & Noble just announced the release of their new Nook Tablet:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/nook-ta ... K%20Tablet
Looks interesting....
Basically double the memory, double the storage, and they added a microSD slot vs the Kindle Fire for $50 more. Good move on their part... now it depends on how important these enhancements are to you in a practical way. When I get my Fire next week, I'll see whether any of this makes any difference to me. I really don't expect any of it to be significance to my anticipated usage. Kinda like not caring that NEITHER of them have a camera onboard.
So how are you liking the Fire?
RE: Nook Color vs Kindle DX
I would agree.

Well, rumor has it that there will be a 10 1/2 inch screen version of the Fire very soon! Probably will cost more than I want to pay though. Since Amazon just had a fire sale on the DX, it is possible they are clearing out their stock in anticipation of the larger Fire model replacing the DX in their lineup.
See.. you can have it all! (if you want to wait a bit and then pay more) [:)]

I read a recent article saying that they are going to debut a new eInk Kindle that uses a new formating, allowing color. It won't be a backlit display like iPad/FIRE/Nook color but eInk. However there was no clear timeline but figure somewhere around spring 2012. Despite the fact that the new format won't be backwards compatible with the current generation of B/W eInk readers, I opted to purchase my DX.....color would be a bonus....but really for me only a minor one. All the books I read need only solid B/W print to display and 99.9% of photos included in the books i purchase are also B/W. It would be kind of cool for downloading a graphic novel.....though at this point i still prefer to have the real thing since i don't buy that many so space isn't an issue.

Like reading and looking for a new eBook reader? Thinking of going for a Kindle? Which one is best Kindle Wi-Fi Or 3G? Well, here are a few things you should know before you go buy one.
Display - When it comes to eBook readers both Kindle Wi-Fi Or 3G models, one of the most important factors to consider is the display. It is imperative to have a good sized display with good resolution so that text appears sharp and clear. In Kindle 3's case, both models come with a 6 inch, 600x800 pixels display with E Ink Pearl technology. This has significantly reduced glare and contrast ratio to ensure minimum eyestrain, even in direct sunlight. Amazon has also included sharp and dark fonts to ensure that you don't have any trouble reading. read more : Amazon kindle review

I'm doing great! I've gotten used to the weight and find myself reading on it almost exclusively, leaving my old 2G Kindle by my bedside. As I've mentioned before, one reason for getting the Fire was to have a way to get on the Internet without firing up my big desktop rigs since I'm on a Solar system and power is sometimes an issue. The Fire lets me check my gmail and facebook accounts easily with no big power cost. I've gotten used to the touch needed to hit small buttons in the browser so that's no longer an issue.
The only criticism that I might have is a slight difficulty in accessing the Internet through my Verizon Mi-Fi hub, but I can't tell if it is the Fire because my Verizon data link is often dropping the signal or refusing the synch up with their network so I'm inclined to think that is the problem, not the Fire. However, I have seen news stories that say some people have had connection issues with it. They just put out a new software update that improved things, including giving more options for managing their carousel display of content. It is cute, but once you have a hundred items or more on it the interface gets a bit cumbersome. Now you can remove items once you are no longer interested in them.
I've purchased about 10 games for it, have all my game manuals on it, a couple of albums of favorite music, about 100 photos, and probably about 25 books actually on the device for current reading. Memory storage has lots of room left, I feel the amount of storage provided is more than adequate. I think only people who want to carry a dozen movies around on their device all the time would need more (and there are such people out there - so they should definitely buy the Nook for the SD slot).
My judgment? It's one heck of deal for $199! Absolutely no regrets about my purchase!

I got to open mine this morning and after an hour or so of learning how to use it, I like it. I could just do without the carousel entirely, but overall I like it and it is what I expected. I had no internet connection problem. It connected instantly as soon as I entered the password for my wireless, and it has worked fine.

What type of monthy fees are there for internet connections? One of the reasons I have not bought a tablet of any sort yet is that I am not in the mood to shell out more money for an internet service.......

It taps into your home wireless network (wi-fi) or can connect in an Internet cafeteria etc. It isn't like cell phone with a contract fees. If you are running an old DSL modem jacked into your PC you would need to convert to a wireless modem or add a wireless hub to allow the Kindle or Nook to connect.
Otherwise, it's totally independent of any add-on services.
