Resource Bonus is Based on Planet, not Empire Race

Hi guys,

This was not immediately apparent, in fact I only just noticed it, so just throwing it out there for those who maybe didn't realise.

The resource bonuses for colonies are in fact based on the dominant race at the planet and not the dominant race of your Empire. This has some strategic implications you may want to take advantage of.

Example:

You are playing as Humans and you find a Sluken colony ship abandoned in space. You colonize a planet with the colony ship giving you a Sluken planet. Sluken produce better troops than Humans, and they get a bonus to troops for having Questrian skin at available at their colony.

You may want to keep this planet as a troop breeding ground. You can use the new population control settings in Legends to "resettle" races of your own family away from this planet. This will make sure the planet remains a Sluken world and the Sluken population won't become overtaken by Human migrants from your homeworld. All you need to do then is make sure you have Questrian skin being mined somewhere, preferably nearby and there you have it, a nice troop training ground (once the population grows) for your Empire.

Sounds reasonable... why should a Dhayut love Gold all of a sudden just because the humans pay him with it...

Any idea if the automated troop recruitment (and loading into ships) is smart enough to focus on the planet that makes better quality troops?

Actually, can anyone confirm if in the population policy "own family" includes your Empires dominant race.  Can I prevent Humans going to a planet if I am a Human Empire, or will it only effect Kiadians and Securan.  If it can't prevent your own race then it is harder to prevent a planet becoming overwhelmed with your own race via migration [:(]

Perhaps it will be harder to maintain a troop breeding ground if this is the case.

I was under the impression that the population control settings for 'same race family' only apply to other races of your family, never your's. I am certain, from gameplay experience, this is true regarding the 'do not accept' setting. With 'resettle' I haven't played, yet, at least not for any amount of time.

I think there is no sure way to protect any early game colony of an alien race from being overrun by your majority race except through (sometimes regular) use of the game editor. I resent this fact very much.

Will have to try out the 'resettle' option, though.

I should have read all posts up front... I can confirm it does *not* include your dominant race, at least regarding the 'do not accept' setting, which is the only one I've tried.

Addendum: Try the 'Do not accept' option for 'other races'. This will keep the existing population happy enough but should keep out others (those nasty turbo-breeding Gizureans and Securan). You just won't get more colonists of that to-be-protected race moving in, either.

I can only go on what Elliot said in response to Kayoz in this thread as I do not have enough in game experience with this. I have tended so far just to leave the setting on the default for the race I am playing.

I'm not sure how this is supposed to work...

I would like to keep my Teekan colony (a la derelict ship discovery) purely Teekan - but I'm not sure how to go about doing this.

To achieve this set the Population Policy for that colony to:
- Same Family: Do Not Accept
- All Other Races: Do Not Accept

"Same Family" means all *other* races in your race family (not including your own race)

What I take this time mean is that like the resources bonuses, the immigration settings apply to the dominant race of the colony. Otherwise this would not keep out the non-Teekan originals of Kayoz's empire. Of course Elliot could be mistaken - there has to be a first time for everything. [:D]
